Việt NamViệt Nam20/12/2023

Similarities in diplomatic policies are the thread that binds the relationship between Vietnam and Latin American countries throughout history.

It is the steadfastness and consistency in applying foreign policy principles, while always being open and adaptable to changes in the world situation.

This is the opinion of Latin American politicians and media on the occasion of Vietnam organizing the 32nd Diplomatic Conference taking place in the capital Hanoi .

The event not only orients the work of the diplomatic sector in the coming years, but is also a preparation step for the summary of 40 years of implementing the foreign policy of the renovation period.

Speaking to VNA reporters in Latin America, Mr. Alfredo Femat Banuelos, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Mexican House of Representatives and President of the Mexico-Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Group, said that since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1975, when Vietnam had just gained independence, the two countries have continuously maintained and strengthened their relationship in all aspects, despite many fluctuations in the world.

In particular, Mexico's establishment of diplomatic relations with the Democratic Republic of Vietnam at that time was an important step in affirming the sovereignty and self-determination of both Mexico and Vietnam, thereby contributing to affirming and strengthening Vietnam's independence, while highlighting the role of Mexico and Latin American countries in the international arena.

According to the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Mexican House of Representatives, the strong connection between Mexico and Vietnam is a clear demonstration of the principles and values that the two countries share, including similarities in the history of the struggle for national liberation, similarities in the independent and autonomous foreign policy, as well as similarities in the historical depth of national culture - factors that contribute to bringing the people of the two countries closer together.

Referring to the achievements of Vietnamese diplomacy, Mr. Alfredo Femat Banuelos affirmed that the correct foreign policy has contributed to highlighting Vietnam's position in the international arena as a country with many contributions to the world.

Similarly, effective diplomatic activities also contribute to bringing a positive image of Vietnam to friends around the world, that is, a country with an amazing economic growth rate, a country with a long history and rich cultural identity, and a country that produces many high-quality products.

Meanwhile, for Mr. Pedro Gellert, a veteran journalist of Regeneración, the official mouthpiece of the ruling National Reconstruction Movement (MORENA) party in Mexico, one of the important contributions that Vietnam's diplomacy has brought over the years is to let the world know about a Vietnam that steadfastly follows the path of Socialism with encouraging achievements in socio-economic development.

As a media expert and with many years of research on Vietnam, journalist Pedro Gellert affirmed that similar to many Latin American countries, Vietnam's foreign policy is developed from domestic policy, which includes adhering to the principle of non-interference in each other's internal affairs, maintaining dialogue, peacefully resolving differences between countries and relations based on the principles of equality and mutual respect.

From Venezuela, journalist Angel Miguel Bastidas González of Correo del Orinoco newspaper highlighted the significance of Vietnam's Bamboo Diplomacy policy, emphasizing that with this policy, Vietnam has been very successful in maintaining effective relationships with major powers while still ensuring national interests.

According to a journalist who once worked in the Venezuelan diplomatic mission in Vietnam, the core guiding principles of Vietnam's Bamboo Diplomacy are national interests, independence, autonomy, diversification and multilateralization of foreign relations.

These principles originate from President Ho Chi Minh's diplomatic ideology and are the foundation for foreign policy.
