At 6:00 a.m. on May 17, the procession of the relics of Buddha Shakyamuni - a national treasure of India - departed from Quan Su Pagoda ( Hanoi ) to be enshrined at Tam Chuc Pagoda (Ba Sao Ward, Kim Bang Town, Ha Nam).
This is the key event in the series of activities to celebrate the United Nations Vesak Day 2025, and is also a sacred occasion for tens of thousands of people and Buddhists to sincerely worship and pay homage to Buddha's relics.
Buddha relic procession route
The procession's route is arranged in detail, ensuring solemnity and convenience for organization.
From Quan Su Pagoda, the group departed along National Highway 1A, heading straight south. It is expected that at around 10am, the group will arrive at the Liem Tuyen intersection (Phu Ly, Ha Nam ). Here, the route continues through a series of main streets in Phu Ly city and neighboring areas. Local people and Buddhists can stand on both sides of the road to worship and welcome the Buddha's relics.
Specifically, from Liem Tuyen intersection, the delegation moved through the following routes: Le Duan - CEO Me Noi urban area - Liem Chinh bridge - Hoang The Thien - Le Cong Thanh - Chau Giang bridge - Bien Hoa - old National Highway 1A - Tran Phu - Ha Nam Provincial People's Committee headquarters - Chau Son bridge - Ly Thuong Kiet - National Highway 21B - Tam Chuc parallel road and the ending point is Tam Chuc pagoda.
Along the routes the procession passes, the authorities will coordinate with volunteers to ensure security and order, regulate traffic flow and support people to participate in worship in an orderly and respectful manner.
It is expected that from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on May 17, the Buddha's relics will be carried around Tam Chuc Lake - one of the prominent landscapes of this spiritual tourist area - before entering the Tam Quan Noi area.
From 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., the solemn ceremony of placing the relics will be held at Tam The Temple. After that, Tam Chuc Pagoda will officially open its doors for free for people and Buddhists to come and worship the relics from 3:00 p.m. on May 17 to 12:00 p.m. on May 20. On May 18 and 19, the opening hours will last from 5:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
To worship the Buddha's relics, Buddhists can travel by road, boat and tram. From May 17-20, visitors and Buddhists coming to Tam Chuc Pagoda to attend the procession and enshrinement of the Buddha's relics will be able to use free boats and trams, and free vegetarian meals.
If traveling by road, from the Tam Quan Ngoai gate, people and Buddhists go around Tam Chuc lake, through Quan Am temple, Giao Chu temple to Tam The temple, where Buddha relics are enshrined. The distance from Tam Quan Ngoai to Tam The temple is about 3-3.5km.
If traveling by tram, visitors go to the central parking lot and then take the tram to Tam The temple, travel time is 10-15 minutes.
Visitors traveling by boat will board the boat at the International Convention Center Pier to Tam Quan Noi, then go through Quan Am Temple, Giao Chu Temple to Tam The Temple.
Notes when visiting Tam Chuc Pagoda
When visiting Buddha's relics at Tam Chuc Pagoda, Buddhists need to pay attention to complying with the regulations to protect the sacred and solemn atmosphere of the event.
The organizers do not collect any fees, do not accept flower baskets or offerings, and do not organize offerings at the relic enshrinement area.
All Buddhists and visitors must line up in order, move in turn, remain absolutely silent, and not take photos or film in the area where the relics are enshrined.
At the same time, people and Buddhists absolutely must not touch relics or artifacts, chant loudly or arbitrarily perform private rituals in this area.
Before being enshrined at Tam Chuc Pagoda, Buddha's relics were enshrined at Thanh Tam Pagoda (HCMC) from May 2-8, at Ba Den Mountain (Tay Ninh) from May 8-13 and at Quan Su Pagoda (Hanoi) from May 13-16.
After being enshrined at Tam Chuc Pagoda, the Buddha's relics will be brought back to India.
