When the stove is red hot in the most difficult days
Immediately upon receiving the order, the kitchen team consisting of 6 officers and soldiers along with the self-propelled kitchen vehicle of Brigade 655 (Department of Logistics - Engineering - Military Region 5) moved to Hoa Thinh commune ( Dak Lak province) to set up a kitchen in a safe place near the flooded area. Each batch of hot rice was prepared in a hurry but full of nutrition, the cook did not have time to wipe his sweat, just hoping that the people's lunch would not be delayed.

After nearly a week, more than 1,600 meals were cooked and delivered to Phu My, My Dien, Canh Tinh villages in Hoa Thinh commune (Dak Lak province) - where many households are still struggling after the flood. The meals, full of meat, fish, eggs, vegetables, and soup, were packed in styrofoam boxes that kept the heat well so that when they reached the people, they were still steaming.
Not only cooking, the soldiers also waded through slippery roads, went to each house and each neighborhood to deliver hot lunch boxes as a way of sending the soldiers' feelings to those in trouble.

In the wet kitchen because of the rain, union members, youth, women's union members of Hoa Thinh commune, teachers of Hoa Dong Primary School, bank employees... quickly washed vegetables, divided meat, and packed cans.
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thien quickly picked up the green vegetables and shared: "Without anyone telling us, seeing the soldiers working from dawn, we wanted to join hands to get the meals to the people as quickly as possible."
Teacher Tran Thi Tuong Vy gently said: "During the flood, every house lacked fire and food. Being able to contribute with the kitchen truck is a joy, a way for us to share some of the difficulties with the people." It is this harmonious coordination that has turned the kitchen truck into a warm support for people in the flood-affected areas.

Amidst the wind and rain, the soldiers' hands still steadily cut meat, washed vegetables, and measured rice. No one complained of fatigue or difficulty.
Professional military captain Nguyen Cong Tien - who has been directly involved in the truck kitchen these past few days, confided: "Seeing people lacking hot meals, we just wish we could cook more, in a timely manner. It's tiring, but seeing people receiving their lunch boxes with all their hearts makes me feel excited right away."
Present in the flooded area to directly monitor and direct the work, Captain Nguyen Huu Ry - Assistant of the Quartermaster Department - Military Region 5, affirmed: "During the flood, the logistics force of the quartermaster industry not only serves the army but also has to take care of the people. The self-propelled kitchen vehicle helps us to be proactive, cook quickly, and ensure the quality of meals in all conditions."
He believes that the kitchen truck is a "right-hand man", especially in the event of sudden and prolonged natural disasters.

Lunch boxes warm up cold homes
In areas where water is still flowing, firewood is not dry, family stoves are out, making cooking impossible. Therefore, when receiving hot lunch boxes, many people cannot hide their emotions.
“The rice is still hot. It’s been a long time since I’ve had a steaming meal like this. The soldiers take such good care of the people,” Mrs. Nguyen Thi Binh choked up.
Ms. Le Thi My Hoa said in tears: “The water has receded for the past few days, there is no electricity, no water, and firewood has been swept away by the flood, so we can’t cook anything. This lunch box arrived just in time, it saved my whole family.” Smiles returned to the faces that were exhausted after many days of fighting the flood.

Few people know that this kitchen truck that is burning red hot in the middle of the flood area every day is a product of research at the Ministry of National Defense level since 2016. With the ability to cook for 200 - 250 people/time, saving fuel, maneuvering on many terrains, operating well in rain and wind, the kitchen truck was designed for camping and combat but now shows absolute effectiveness in a new mission - fighting natural disasters and rescuing people.
While the flood waters have not yet receded, amidst immeasurable losses, the hot lunch boxes from the self-propelled kitchen truck are a source of trust and meaningful sharing. It is the truest image of “Uncle Ho’s soldiers” who are always present in the most difficult places, bringing warmth to lives in need of support.
