Launching National No Tobacco Week (TL) from May 25 to 31, 2023

(CT) - On May 25, Bach Mai Hospital organized a scientific workshop in response to World Day Without Tobacco (May 31, 2023). The workshop was held directly at Bach Mai Hospital and online with the Department of Health of 63 provinces and cities, the Center for Disease Control (CDC), hospitals, and medical centers nationwide.

In his opening speech, Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Van Giap, Deputy Director of Bach Mai Hospital, said: In reality, although tobacco is known to be harmful, medical staff still smoke tobacco, and patients with tobacco-related diseases continue to smoke tobacco. It is common for students to buy tobacco. Doctors may prescribe drugs to treat tobacco-related diseases such as cardiovascular disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, etc., but they forget to advise and guide patients to quit tobacco, and patients continue to be hospitalized. Medical staff must consider tobacco use as an important issue that needs intervention, and must spend time and effort to advise patients. If tobacco use is not given due attention, the health sector will continue to treat many tobacco-related diseases.

At the workshop, delegates were updated on methods of counseling and drug treatment in TL withdrawal; screening for TL-related diseases at medical facilities; and screening for lung cancer with low-dose chest CT scans. The workshop was an opportunity for doctors to discuss and find solutions to help patients successfully quit TL.
