This is a route operated by MSC, part of the Sentosa network, connecting Vietnam directly to West Coast ports in the United States.
| The supertanker MSC Leanne, with a deadweight tonnage of 202,461 DWT and a designed carrying capacity of 19,500 TEU, docked at SSIT port. |
According to Mr. Phan Hoang Vu, General Director of SSIT port, the successful reception of the MSC Leanne vessel is particularly significant in the context of the US temporarily imposing a 10% import tariff for 90 days.
The operation of large-tonnage vessels helps shipping companies and ports promptly meet the increased export demand from Vietnam to the United States during this period, while also creating a foundation for future trade growth between the two countries, especially after bilateral negotiations are advanced.
This event marks a significant step forward in the strategy to enhance the capacity to receive mother vessels at the Cai Mep - Thi Vai port cluster, while affirming SSIT's role as one of the leading deep-water ports in Vietnam, capable of accommodating ultra-large vessels and expanding trans- Pacific maritime connectivity.
