The Department of Information Security warns people about 7 common forms of online fraud, including 5 forms occurring domestically and 2 forms carried out by subjects on an international scale:
Scam to register for free police and military semesters for children
A scam using summer camp programs for children advertised on Facebook has been discovered in Thua Thien Hue and is showing signs of spreading nationwide. The scammers create Facebook accounts named 'Skills Summer Camp - CAND Semester', 'Military Semester Summer Camp'... with interfaces and addresses similar to information from police and military agencies. At the same time, they impersonate authorities to post information inviting parents to register for free courses for their children. To register, students must practice booking airline tickets online or deposit 5-10 million VND in advance. After the victim transfers money, the scammers block communication.

Advise people to be vigilant against fraudulent summer camp activities, the Information Security Department advises people not to follow money transfer instructions without identifying the recipient. When receiving information on social networks with similar content, before registering, people need to contact and meet directly to request the organizing unit to provide documents proving that they are a legal organization, authorized to organize the event.
A series of subjects appropriated discount codes on Shopee
Phu Tho Provincial Police have just prosecuted a series of subjects using computer networks, telecommunications networks, and electronic means to appropriate Shopee Company's assets. This agency previously discovered groups on social networks inside and outside Phu Tho province calling for fake orders (paying people to place orders) and applying discount vouchers when buying goods on the Shopee platform.

By placing fake orders, the groups created fake transactions worth tens of billions of VND and appropriated the value of Shopee discount codes sponsored for buyers on the platform. Through this incident, the Information Security Department recommends that people do not participate in groups that place fake orders on social networks to avoid assisting fraudsters. When buying goods, people also need to carefully research information about the seller.
Impersonating a health department inspector to defraud bone and joint medicine
A subject in Hanoi recently impersonated a Health Department Inspector to make phone calls to consult and sell medicine to people with bone and joint diseases at a price of 1 to 3 million VND per prescription. After transferring the medicine through the COD service of the delivery company, the subject also tricked patients into participating in the program to create a book to support free medical examination at major hospitals, on the condition that the patient must pay a book creation fee or value added tax.

The Information Security Department recommends that people be cautious when transacting on social networks, especially with items related to health and life; do not listen to advice via fake websites or calls when you cannot determine the level of reputation and safety. People should only go to licensed medical facilities for medical examination, treatment guidance, and purchase of medicine.
The scam of impersonating VTV to organize a photo contest reappears
Recently, on Facebook, a program called "Moment of Love Photo Contest for Mother and Baby" appeared with signs of fraud when impersonating VTV and asking participants to participate in "buying sponsor products". Previously, the act of impersonating individuals and units of VTV was used by many subjects to defraud and appropriate the assets of many victims.

The Department of Information Security has repeatedly warned people to be vigilant with competitions and festivals introduced and promoted on social networks. It advises people to verify and carefully research information about online programs and competitions to avoid being scammed; not to follow requests or instructions from subjects, especially requests for money transfers; and to report to the police when suspecting fraudulent behavior.
YouTube channels of many famous people were attacked and taken over
Social media channels of celebrities and content creators such as MixiGaming (Phung Thanh Do) Quang Linh Vlogs were recently hacked and taken over by hackers. According to the Department of Information Security, hackers taking control of celebrity social media accounts can have serious consequences.

The Information Security Department recommends that users be careful in securing their accounts and personal information. Content creators should be careful with their 'stream key' (live event code) to avoid being leaked, creating opportunities for hackers. Not only celebrities, social media users also need to strictly manage their accounts; form the habit of changing passwords regularly, setting strong passwords and 2-step authentication.
Users should only use licensed software, be cautious with suspicious emails or links, do not provide sensitive personal information or login information via text messages or emails; do not log in to accounts on unfamiliar devices; form the habit of regularly changing passwords, setting strong passwords, and 2-step authentication. In addition, users should also be wary of messages asking to borrow money.
'Easy job, high salary' scam appears via WhatsApp
A victim in Spain was recently robbed of 11,000 Euros after falling into a 'easy job, high salary' scam via WhatsApp. The way this victim was tricked into taking his property is similar to the 'easy job, high salary' scams that have been repeatedly warned by authorities in Vietnam.

To prevent this, the Information Security Department recommends that people be vigilant and spread the word about scams to their relatives and friends to avoid falling into the traps of bad guys. When working as collaborators for a supplier of goods and services, people need to verify information through different sources. People should not provide personal information to anyone. If they detect signs of fraud or have been scammed, people should quickly report the fraudulent acts to the competent authorities.
Stealing business information by tricking people into installing malware via email
According to the Information Security Department, large corporations and businesses are being targeted by scammers to steal information and assets. The attacks not only cause direct damage to businesses but also affect user confidence.
An updated version of a malware called Rhadamanthys is being used in phishing campaigns targeting the oil and gas sector. Spread via emails, Rhadamanthys is designed to establish a connection to a command-and-control server to collect sensitive data from the compromised server.

Visa has also recently warned of a surge in a new version of the JsOutProx malware targeting financial institutions and their customers. JsOutProx is sent to targets via emails impersonating legitimate organizations, informing them of fake SWIFT or MoneyGram payments in an attempt to trick them into stealing customer information.
Recommending businesses to be more careful in managing security systems to prevent the above-mentioned forms of phishing attacks, the Information Security Department noted: Businesses need to regularly review, inspect and evaluate to ensure information system security; improve professional qualifications to promptly overcome system weaknesses and respond when attacked.
