Recently, the Department of Pediatrics, Thanh Son Regional Medical Center (Phu Tho) recorded a rapid increase in the number of Adenovirus cases in children. The disease begins with symptoms of high fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, easily confused with flu, measles or other viral fevers. If not detected early and treated promptly, the disease can progress severely, causing complications of pneumonia, otitis media, and even respiratory failure requiring mechanical ventilation.
Parents need to pay special attention when their children show signs such as: persistent high fever, rapid breathing, wheezing, chest retraction, poor feeding, fatigue, vomiting or diarrhea. When these symptoms appear, do not self-treat at home but take the child to a medical facility for examination and proper diagnosis.
According to doctors at Thanh Son Regional Medical Center, Adenovirus is spread through the respiratory tract, saliva and hand-to-mouth contact. Disease prevention should start with simple actions such as washing hands regularly, cleaning the nose and throat, keeping the body warm, and avoiding taking children to crowded places during the changing seasons.
Doctors recommend that parents should improve nutrition, give their children enough sleep, and supplement vitamins to improve their resistance. "Early detection and proper treatment help reduce serious complications and protect children's respiratory health," doctors emphasize.
