Warning: Hanoi and neighboring provinces face high levels of air pollution

The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has just sent a document to the provinces and cities: Hanoi, Hai Phong, Bac Ninh, Hung Yen, Phu Tho, Thai Nguyen, Ninh Binh. to deploy urgent measures to respond to the air pollution forecast in late November and early December.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, monitoring data from the national environmental quality monitoring system and hydrometeorological forecasting, in the next 10 days, the Northern region, especially Hanoi and neighboring provinces, will experience unfavorable weather patterns (temperature inversion, windless, fog).

The above weather pattern will reduce the ability of pollutants to diffuse in the air, leading to the risk of increased concentrations of accumulated PM2.5 dust (AQI exceeding 150), directly affecting economic, social activities and public health.

To proactively control, prevent and minimize the level of pollution and adverse impacts of this pollution outbreak, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment requests the People's Committees of provinces and centrally run cities to focus on directing and drastically implementing many urgent measures.

Specifically, strengthen street cleaning and implement solutions to reduce road dust. Strictly control construction and transportation activities that emit dust. Strictly manage industrial waste sources and activities with burning stages in craft villages.

At the same time, strictly control the burning of waste and agricultural by-products. Strengthen information, public health warnings and apply technology to monitor and handle violations.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment requests the People's Committees of provinces and cities to urgently direct the implementation and update the results weekly according to Official Dispatch No. 10260 dated October 23 of the Government Office on urging the implementation of tasks assigned by the Government's leadership.

Improve air quality, control emission sources

The Prime Minister has just issued a decision approving the national action plan on pollution remediation and air quality management for the 2026-2030 period, with a vision to 2045.

Thereby clearly stating the goals for the period 2026 - 2030, controlling, preventing and gradually overcoming and improving air pollution in key economic areas, focusing on solving air pollution in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and neighboring provinces.

Accordingly, 100% of major emission sources in production types with high risk of causing air pollution such as cement, thermal power, steel smelting, boilers... nationwide are strictly managed and controlled and have a roadmap to gradually reduce emissions.

100% of vehicles participating in road traffic (including cars, motorbikes, and scooters) are managed and controlled for emissions according to the roadmap for applying national technical standards and regulations on emissions of vehicles participating in road traffic...
