Warning of electric leakage on stage, 9th grade male student in Quang Ngai still electrocuted to death

(PLVN) - Although teachers at Ba To Secondary School (Quang Ngai) discovered and reported the phenomenon of an electric leakage on the stage before the performance, the problem was not completely resolved, leading to a tragic accident that killed a 9th grade male student.

On April 26, the People's Committee of Ba To district ( Quang Ngai ) confirmed that a 9th grade male student had just died from electric shock while participating in a school performance.

The victim was TCT, a student at Ba To Town Secondary School. T. participated in a performance in the art program celebrating the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South, national reunification and the 135th birthday of President Ho Chi Minh .

At around 9:40 p.m. on April 25, after finishing his performance and moving down from the stage, T. accidentally touched the stage's iron frame and was electrocuted. The incident happened quickly in front of many witnesses, but no one intervened in time. T. was taken to the Ba To District Medical Center for emergency treatment but did not survive.

Initial investigation showed that the LED lighting system serving the performance leaked electricity to the stage's iron frame. Notably, before the accident, at around 8:00 p.m. the same day, Mr. Ngo Huu Hoa and another teacher discovered signs of an electric leak on the stage and texted the Board of Directors to report.

Mr. Nguyen Van Loc, Principal of Ba To Town Secondary School, said that he had asked the technical department to check and fix the problem. Mr. Tran Dinh Long Vu, who was assigned to handle the problem, later reported that the problem had been fixed. However, just over an hour later, the tragic incident still occurred.

The entire sound, lighting and stage for the art program were rented by the school from an outside unit, installed by Mr. Tran Dinh Thinh (residing in Ba Dong commune, Ba To district).

Quang Ngai Provincial Police are coordinating with Ba To District Police to investigate the cause of the incident. Mr. Nguyen Van Loc and many related individuals, including the equipment supplier, were invited to work that night.

The incident has shocked and saddened teachers, students and local people. The school and local authorities are urgently implementing measures to support the victim’s family and stabilize the students’ psychology.
