Many images and clips show Lieutenant Le Hoang Hiep being surrounded when he appeared at the train station - Photo: Screenshot
In recent days, soldiers from several agencies and units of the Ministry of National Defense have been taking the train to Hanoi to carry out A80 missions. Among them is Senior Lieutenant Le Hoang Hiep, who is known as the "military male god" after a clip of him getting off the train went viral on the occasion of the April 30 holiday.
On June 6, when Senior Lieutenant Le Hoang Hiep and his teammates arrived in Hanoi , the incident exploded into a "media storm". Many images and clips went viral on social networks showing hundreds of spectators coming to the train to approach, take photos, and ask for Hiep's autograph.
Because the crowd was so large, the army had to send people to clear a path so that soldiers could move out of Hanoi station, avoiding affecting the schedule.
From the story of Lieutenant Le Hoang Hiep: Soldiers are not entertainment idols
The image of Senior Lieutenant Le Hoang Hiep surrounded by hundreds of "fans" has long been controversial, but perhaps the current moment is the peak.
The image of a crowd tightly surrounding soldier Hiep is no different from the usual image of famous K-pop idols when they arrive at the airport, or some Vietnamese music "brothers" who have been admired recently.
When Mr. Hiep was not at a media event but was on his way to perform military duties, many people still tried to approach him to film and take photos to post online.
There is a clip showing a girl following Mr. Hiep onto the train to give him a gift, causing controversy because of her excessive enthusiasm.
"They are soldiers, not idols. Just because they are not upset doesn't mean they like people following them around like that. On social media, we have told each other many times not to give them gifts anymore, because it affects their work, but we still follow them and give them gifts. It's so embarrassing!" - a viewer wrote on Threads.
Many people mentioned the viral clip on April 30 when Mr. Hiep got out of the car, creating a lot of admiration recently.

There's nothing wrong with that clip. The distortion is in the way people suddenly become so crazy and literally "hunt" for him.
The distortion lies in the mentality of "turning everyone into an idol" just because that person is beautiful, charismatic, causes a fever... of a part of the people.
Meanwhile, anyone who wants to pursue their dream of becoming an idol and becoming famous will almost certainly choose fields that can reach the general public, such as acting, singing, etc., instead of choosing to be a soldier - a job that is full of discipline, strictness, and tends to be a private lifestyle.
Dignity for the army, dignity for yourself
To compare with real K-pop idols, we can look to BTS - a group with 5 members currently serving military service in Korea. On June 10 and 11, 4 of these 5 members will be discharged.
Today (June 7), BTS' management company Bighit Music announced that no special events will be held on the day of their discharge. "Each venue has limited space, and large gatherings can pose safety risks," the company wrote, asking fans to cooperate in not coming to see their idols in person.
Previously, it was reported that the four BTS members would greet the public through the media at a location other than the military barracks. Regardless of the return of national idols, the dignity of the military and the safety of everyone are still paramount.
Returning to the story of Lieutenant Le Hoang Hiep, distorted admiration not only affects the soldiers' performance of their duties, but also makes netizens question the "dignity" of those who jostle and push to get close to a soldier.
This concept is not too big but comes from small actions, small gestures.
A viewer wrote on Threads: "I admire Comrade Hiep's style, but I only follow his activities online. On April 30, I only looked at the soldiers from afar and waved, not daring to come closer to bother them.
Many young people and some older people act like crazy fans when they meet Mr. Hiep, they keep getting closer, it's really embarrassing to see him.
