Emergency evacuation of people
Recently, dozens of landslides and deep cracks have been recorded in many residential areas, forcing local authorities to evacuate people and relocate houses urgently. This is considered the most effective response to prevent risks and minimize damage during the ongoing flood season.
Mr. Aral Hoang, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Avuong Commune, said that through field inspections after the recent floods, local authorities recorded that 16/16 villages in the commune are at high risk of landslides and deep flooding. Worryingly, some low-lying villages, located at the foot of high mountains such as Ga'lau, Arec, Talang, Ateep, Bhlooc, Adzoc... are warned of high risk due to landslides and flash floods.

Over the past few days, the Avuong commune authorities have continuously visited the villages to survey the scene and mobilize people to evacuate from dangerous locations. This has also helped the locality develop appropriate and timely response plans to avoid damage caused by unexpected landslides. “In the villages of Ga'lau and Arec, cracks are currently recorded that are more than 250m long, with some places sinking 3-5m deep, directly threatening dozens of households and schools. Some roads are buried by rocks and soil, partially cutting off residential areas, which is very dangerous,” said Mr. Aral Hoang.
In La Dee commune, after each prolonged rain, cracks continuously appeared on the hill of Dac Rich residential area, each time more than 100m longer, forcing the commune government to "take immediate action". A large-scale evacuation was carried out with the help of border guards, police, commune militia... for many consecutive days. Without a moment of negligence or lack of vigilance, at dangerous locations, functional forces were present promptly, on duty 24/24 hours to prevent people and vehicles from passing, to prevent sudden landslides.
Mr. Bui The Anh, Chairman of the People's Committee of La Dee Commune, said that people's lives are paramount. In addition to mobilizing people to strictly comply with the evacuation order and not return to dangerous areas, the locality has assigned forces to monitor the terrain and supervise cracks to ensure people's safety. "From the level of natural disaster risk, in addition to developing a safe resettlement plan, we have increased warnings to the community to minimize possible damage," said Mr. Bui The Anh.
Danger warning
After the floods, cracks and landslides appeared in many places in the mountains, especially in residential areas and schools. In village 57 (Dak Pring commune), Dac Rich (La Dee commune), Put (Hung Son commune)... the cracks on the high mountains widened, causing serious subsidence with a length of hundreds of meters. At the landslide locations, giant frog jaws were created, causing many residential areas and welfare works to face an unprecedented danger.

Mr. Zơrâm Buôn, Chairman of the People's Committee of Hùng Sơn Commune, said that after the terrible landslide that buried 3 people in Put village, the commune government directed a review of all areas at high risk of landslides. In particular, priority was given to evacuating people in vulnerable areas to prevent dangers and avoid similar losses from happening again.
According to Mr. Buon, currently hundreds of local Co Tu households are temporarily housed in schools and solid community cultural houses. “Border guards, police and teachers are actively supporting people to feel secure about their food and accommodation. This not only helps people take shelter safely, but also allows the government to continue monitoring, ensuring security and preventing landslides in a timely manner,” said Mr. Zơrâm Buôn.

Faced with the complicated developments of natural disasters, recently, mountainous localities have requested the People's Committee of Da Nang City to declare an emergency situation in villages and resettlement areas. At the same time, they have directed relevant units to coordinate in surveying, overcoming consequences and developing long-term resettlement plans, ensuring safety for people against natural disasters and floods.
Experts warn that landslides in the mountainous areas of Da Nang can happen suddenly, even in sunny weather, due to the steep slopes that have accumulated water for a long time and the smoldering cracks. Therefore, it is recommended that the authorities and people absolutely do not return to the dangerous area, and at the same time pay attention to geological surveys, control human activities and closely monitor the scene to minimize risks...
