These samples were found to contain two banned substances in medicine, Sildenafil and Tadalafil - drugs that are only allowed to be used in erectile dysfunction treatment drugs. The presence of these substances in functional foods, which are promoted as safe for health, has raised serious concerns about the safety of these products.

In the test results, the Food Safety Department discovered that 5 samples of health food products under the brand name Man Plus Gold, produced by Bao Ngoc International Pharmaceutical Company Limited ( Hanoi ), contained the substances Sildenafil and Tadalafil.
These are two active ingredients used in drugs to treat erectile dysfunction in men but are banned from use in dietary supplements due to the potential risk of causing serious side effects.
Specifically, Man Plus Gold product samples have Sildenafil and Tadalafil content ranging from 0.51mg/kg to 58.8mg/g and from 0.22mg/kg to 27.1mg/g. This demonstrates the serious level of violations in the production and consumption of these products, as they can have adverse effects on the health of users, especially those with cardiovascular disease.
Sildenafil and Tadalafil are both drugs used in erectile dysfunction medications, helping to improve blood flow to the penis.
However, if used incorrectly or using products of unknown origin containing these substances, users may face the risk of serious side effects such as myocardial infarction, stroke, kidney failure, and even sudden death. Especially for people without physiological problems or people with a history of cardiovascular disease, using these products is extremely dangerous.
Therefore, the discovery of these substances in health protection foods by the Food Safety Department is an important warning to the community about the dangers of using products of unknown origin or without quality control.
In addition to sexual enhancement products, another case that has caused concern among health experts is the discovery of Sibutramine - a banned substance in weight loss products - in weight loss supplements. This substance has long been banned due to the risk of causing serious cardiovascular and neurological problems.
A 27-year-old patient in Thanh Hoa was hospitalized in critical condition after using a weight loss product containing Sibutramine. The girl suffered serious complications such as kidney failure, nerve damage, vision loss and other dangerous symptoms.
Doctor Nguyen Huy Tien, Bach Mai Hospital Poison Control Center, said that Sibutramine can cause extremely dangerous side effects such as high blood pressure, arrhythmia, myocardial infarction and stroke. Doctors have repeatedly warned about the dangers of using weight loss supplements of unknown origin and containing banned substances.
Faced with this situation, the Food Safety Department has issued strong recommendations to consumers. First, people need to be cautious and alert when purchasing and using functional foods, especially products of unknown origin or sold through unofficial channels, such as social networks or unreliable websites.
Nutritionists and doctors recommend that effective and safe weight loss should not depend on floating weight loss support products. Instead, a healthy diet, rich in fiber, low in starch and fat, combined with exercise is the most sustainable and safe weight loss method.
To lose weight safely and effectively, consumers should consult a medical specialist before using any functional food products.
The choice of products must be based on trust in products that have been licensed by the Ministry of Health and distributed through official channels. The Food Safety Department also recommends that if people discover any product that shows signs of violation, contains prohibited substances or has unclear information about its origin, they should immediately notify the authorities for timely handling.
The Food Safety Department and other authorities have been making efforts to inspect and recall functional food products that violate regulations, but consumers need to proactively protect their health by choosing reputable products with clear origins and licensed by health authorities.
Using functional foods of unknown origin can potentially lead to poisoning, causing unfortunate consequences for health and even life.
