Vietnam and Indian Coast Guards conduct search and rescue and incident response drills

VOV.VN - The Vietnam Coast Guard and the Indian Coast Guard today (December 20) organized a search and rescue and incident handling exercise at sea. The activity took place in the Indian Ocean waters of the southern Indian state of Kerala, as part of a visit, exchange and experience sharing.

From December 16 to 20, ship CSB 8005 and a working delegation of the Vietnam Coast Guard led by Colonel Nguyen Minh Khanh - Deputy Commander, Chief of Staff of the Coast Guard Region 3 Command visited, interacted and shared experiences with Region 4, Western Command of the Indian Coast Guard in Kochi city, Kerala state, southern India.

The visit is of great political significance, contributing to consolidating the traditional friendship, enhancing cooperation, understanding and mutual trust between the Vietnam Coast Guard and the Indian Coast Guard; reflecting the commitment of both sides in building a secure, safe, stable and prosperous maritime region. At the same time, this is also an opportunity for both sides to evaluate the effectiveness of the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the two forces signed in 2015, thereby expanding new areas of cooperation in the future.

The main content of this mission is a joint training activity to share experiences and improve coordination between the Vietnam Coast Guard and the Indian Coast Guard in emergency situations at sea. The focus is on deploying vehicles and personnel to participate in rescue, search and rescue and handle serious incidents such as fires or oil spills at sea in a timely, safe and effective manner. The training content helps officers and soldiers of both sides to perfect the coordination process in the field, enhance communication, coordinate forces and effectively use specialized equipment.

With experience in responding to emergency situations at sea, the Vietnam Coast Guard delegation has proposed many detailed plans for coordinating search and rescue and handling incidents at sea. Notably, the use of simulated situations simulating incidents of different scales is a highlight, thereby contributing to enhancing the coordination and deployment of rescue forces of both sides in a flexible and realistic manner. The joint exercise plan proposed by the Vietnam Coast Guard was highly appreciated by the professional agency of the Indian Coast Guard.

During the visit, the delegation of the Vietnam Coast Guard paid a courtesy call to Brigadier General N. Ravi - Commander of Region 4, Western Command of the Indian Coast Guard; coordinated activities to collect garbage and clean up the beaches of Kochi city; and participated in sports exchanges with officers and sailors of the Indian Coast Guard.
