The cause of death has not been determined but is believed to be poisoning. Previously, there was information that the six victims were poisoned with cyanide. Currently, the forensic agency is conducting an autopsy and examining all related evidence. Police have temporarily detained the tour guide for further questioning. Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin has ordered an investigation into the murder at the hotel, according to Reuters. Mr. Srettha also said that reports showed that an American of Vietnamese origin was among the dead. Earlier, a Thai police officer who did not want to reveal his identity denied previous reports in the Thai media that six people had been killed in a shooting. "There are no signs of a shooting," the officer told Reuters without elaborating. VNA quoted Vietnamese Ambassador to Thailand Pham Viet Hung as saying that embassy staff were working with local authorities to verify the incident and carry out necessary citizen protection work.
