Cut 100 growing area codes, tighten banned substances on durian

Farmers are struggling to identify ways to eliminate banned substances, this is the most worrying thing. After many years of growing durian, Mr. Duong Van Day (Ngu Hiep Commune, Cai Lay, Tien Giang ) is still very vague about the information about Cadimin in the production process. Meanwhile, which types of fertilizers contain cadmium exceeding the threshold have not been widely announced, leading to difficulty in control.

At this time, durian prices at gardens in the Mekong Delta and Southeast hit their lowest point in the past 10 years.

The gap from the growing area will be a challenge when the Chinese market requires 100% of shipments to have cadmium and yellow O test results to be cleared through customs.

A root monitoring program to shorten processing time at the border has been set up by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment for key areas. Through review, although only 20% of durian areas have growing area codes, many codes still have to be temporarily suspended for completion.

Mr. Hoang Trung - Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment said: "We have reviewed and removed more than 100 growing area codes and nearly 80 packaging facilities that did not meet the standards...".

Worried about losing the billion-dollar market, the Dak Lak Durian Association has just proposed to zone off areas growing in violation of regulations. At the same time, large-scale sampling is being carried out to assess the level of cadmium and yellow O residues.

However, due to the lack of consensus on price, time, and quality of testing for gold and cadmium, businesses also proposed that this issue should be resolved to ensure favorable conditions for durian production and export.
