On the morning of July 28, Dr. Tran Nam Dung, Vice Principal of the Gifted High School, Ho Chi Minh City National University, said that the school will hold a ceremony to honor Dr. Le Ba Khanh Trinh and Dr. Nguyen Thanh Hung - two faces who have made many contributions to the Mathematics - Information Technology department at the school over the past many years.
Dr. Tran Nam Dung said that Dr. Trinh left the position of Head of the Math Group at the Gifted High School from March 2025, and Dr. Hung will leave the position of Head of the IT Group from August 2025.
However, after leaving the group leader position, the two teachers continued to accompany the Gifted High School as consultants in the work of nurturing excellent students.
"I have been with Mr. Trinh since 1984, and with Mr. Hung since 1995. The numbers are enough to show a bond and understanding. They are seniors who have guided, mentored, and supported me a lot in my work," Dr. Tran Nam Dung shared.

Dr. Le Ba Khanh Trinh was born in 1962 in Hue . He was the first Vietnamese to achieve a perfect score at the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), specifically 40/40 points in 1979, and also won a special prize for a unique solution in this exam. At that time, he was known as the "golden boy of Vietnamese Mathematics".
After IMO, the "golden boy" was admitted directly to the Faculty of Mathematics and Mechanics, Lomonosov Moscow State University and did research under the guidance of academician Andrey Alexandrovich Gontrar.
After successfully defending his doctoral thesis, he returned to Vietnam and worked at Ho Chi Minh City National University. He also made many contributions to the Gifted High School in training excellent national and international students and spent many years leading the Vietnamese IMO team.
Dr. Nguyen Thanh Hung was a student at Lam Son High School for the Gifted ( Thanh Hoa ). After graduating from Lipetsk National Pedagogical University, he returned to Vietnam to teach IT at Lam Son High School. In the first course, 4 of Dr. Hung's students participated in the national IT competition and all won prizes and one student achieved the highest score.
After finishing his teaching period at Lam Son Specialized School, Dr. Nguyen Thanh Hung worked at many other specialized schools and then stayed with the Gifted High School until now. He participated in training hundreds of students who won national prizes in Information Technology and many others who won prizes in international Olympiads in Information Technology.
