Currently, the area of giang leaves is scattered in the communes: Tra Linh, Quang Trung, Quang Han, Hanh Phuc, Ha Lang ... with an area of 400 hectares. Of which, about 100 hectares of giang trees are entering the first leaf harvesting stage. The enterprise supports the supply of 300 thousand seedlings, about 20 tons of fertilizer for farmers and guides the technical process for people to ensure good growth of the trees to meet product quality standards. In particular, all giang leaves are jointly consumed and sold by Van Phuc Xanh Company Limited to serve export processing. This is a favorable factor that helps people feel secure in investing in expanding the area of giang leaves, bringing high economic value and a guaranteed source of income for people in localities in the province.
Ms. Nong Thi Bieu, Pac Rinh hamlet, Keo Hao, Quang Trung commune is one of the households growing giang trees in the commune, said: My family has been growing giang trees since June 2024 until now, with an area of 6 hectares, giang trees are growing well with clumps over 1 meter high and entering the first leaf harvest. Determining this is a crop with high economic value, the family takes care of giang trees according to the correct technical process. Giang trees belong to the bamboo family, are easy to grow, have few pests and diseases, are suitable for the climate and soil conditions of mountainous areas, and are suitable for the farming practices of the people. After only 6 - 8 months of planting, if we focus on taking good care of the trees, the average selling price is 8 - 10 thousand VND/kg of fresh leaves, it is expected that from the second year onwards, each giang clump will yield about 20 kg of fresh leaves, with an average income of 200 thousand VND/clump.
Mr. Ha Van Hoat, Lung Tung hamlet, Quang Trung commune shared: With the propaganda of the local Party Committee and government, the family boldly switched from low-economic-efficiency crops to growing giang trees with an area of over 1 hectare. The giang trees are growing very well and the first giang leaves are expected to be harvested from September to October. The giang trees are instructed by the company on how to harvest and preserve the giang trees and the products are harvested on site... Next year, the family will continue to mobilize families in the hamlet to focus on expanding the giang tree area.
As one of the companies that undertake to purchase giang leaf products for people, Mr. Do Anh Tuan, Deputy Director of Van Phuc Xanh 559 Company Limited, Tai Nam hamlet, Tra Linh commune shared: The advantage of growing giang trees is that you invest in planting once and do not have to replant. The care is low, and the value of the product is much higher than other crops such as corn, cinnamon, and star anise. Test results show that after 8 months of planting in the ground, the tree has yielded its first leaf harvest. In the first year, each clump yields an average of 20 kg of fresh leaves at the current price of 10,000 VND/kg, equivalent to 200,000 VND/clump. Regarding exported giang leaf products, the company is very concerned about the quality of the leaves, instructing people to grow them according to the correct technical process using organic fertilizers.
The company focuses on expanding the area of Giang tree planting in many communes in the province, focusing on introducing new varieties of trees to help people change their knowledge about agriculture , introducing varieties of trees with high economic value to create stable income for people, contributing to poverty reduction. The company is also interested in accompanying businesses to find new directions in developing agricultural commodity economy for local people. For fresh Giang leaves, after purchasing, the company brings them to the factory and processes, dries, and exports to China.
In some localities, giang trees are also supported through national target programs on economic development in rural areas and ethnic minority areas to expand the area. In 2025, the company plans to expand the growing area from 1,000 - 1,500 hectares in the communes of Tam Kim, Nguyen Binh, Phuc Hoa with a total investment capital of over 5 billion VND to date. In addition to supplying seeds and fertilizers, the company also purchases all giang leaves for people, then processes, preserves, and dries giang leaves for export to some countries such as China, Taiwan, Japan, and Korea. The company commits to purchasing and consuming products directly for people in some giang growing communes in the province at a price of 8 - 10 thousand VND/kg of fresh leaves.
Secretary of Tra Linh Commune Party Committee Ma Gia Hanh said: Currently, Tra Linh Commune has more than 70 hectares of giang trees. To develop the giang tree area and open up a new direction for farmers, the Party Committee and the commune government continue to promote propaganda and mobilize local people to encourage planting of trees that bring high economic efficiency, including giang trees for leaves. The commune identifies this as one of the commodity crops for people to focus on developing household economy and allocate some idle land to grow giang trees for leaves, promoting the development of local agricultural economy in the direction of commodities and sustainable linkages.
