Every year, Phu Yen district proactively implements measures to prevent avian influenza and other poultry diseases, helping the livestock industry develop sustainably and ensuring income for the people.

Phu Yen currently has a poultry population of over 817,000 birds, producing nearly 700 tons of poultry meat annually and supplying the market with more than 9 million eggs. Ms. Pham Thi Tu, Director of the Phu Yen District Agricultural Services Center, stated: One of the sources of avian influenza and other poultry diseases is the transportation, trading, and consumption of smuggled poultry. The Center has advised the District People's Committee and the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to direct localities to administer supplementary avian influenza vaccines; strengthen slaughter control and inspect poultry transport vehicles entering the area; and proactively implement measures when disease outbreaks occur.
In addition, the district's specialized agencies regularly coordinate with communes and towns to guide farmers in implementing measures to prevent and control poultry diseases through the commune and village's public address system; integrating it into village meetings and meetings of mass organizations; and sending specialized staff to directly disseminate information in the villages... In particular, they advise livestock farmers to disinfect and sterilize livestock and poultry barns according to the "3 steps, 3 phases, and 3 sprays" principle.
From 2023 to the present, specialized agencies in Phu Yen district have organized 3 awareness campaigns; opened 7 training courses and transferred techniques for preventing avian influenza and other poultry diseases; and administered over 50,000 doses of vaccines against Newcastle disease, cholera, hemorrhagic septicemia, avian influenza A/H5N1, A/H5N6, A/H5N8, etc. In addition, district authorities have guided livestock farmers to disinfect and sterilize livestock areas covering over 5,000 square meters.
Muong Lang commune has a large poultry flock, with over 35,000 birds. The commune proactively implements disease prevention and control measures, especially against avian influenza. They have encouraged households to raise poultry in enclosed, free-range systems, facilitating management and care of the livestock. Mr. Ha Van Dung, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Muong Lang commune, reported: Since the beginning of the year, the commune has coordinated with the District Agricultural Services Center to inspect and test samples from several poultry flocks in the area to check for disease outbreaks. They have provided over 30 packages of disinfectant chemicals for spraying over 3,500 square meters of poultry houses. Simultaneously, they have educated residents to only use vaccines and medications for poultry when instructed by specialized agencies.
Mr. Lo Van Dien, from Thuong Lang village, Muong Lang commune, shared: "My family raises nearly 300 chickens and ducks. To increase the animals' resistance, we supplement their feed according to the instructions of veterinary officers; we use preventive medicine at each stage, thanks to which the poultry flock is developing well and no outbreaks of disease have occurred."
Continuing to proactively implement measures to prevent avian influenza and other poultry diseases, Phu Yen district is strengthening control over the transportation, buying, selling, and slaughtering of poultry; directing communes and towns to guide livestock farmers to proactively vaccinate their animals, implement measures to prevent and control avian influenza outbreaks, protect their flocks, and minimize losses caused by diseases to livestock farmers.
