"From my experience with my children, I realize that there are still many children in Vietnam who love chess but do not have the conditions to directly participate in international tournaments. Therefore, I aspire to organize an international chess tournament right in Vietnam for them to try their hand and satisfy their passion. That is the reason why the KPNest Chess Tournament was born."

KPNest Chess Tournament receives great attention from athletes and fans

From the perspective of a parent whose child plays chess, Ms. Phan Thi Thanh Truyen wants to do all the best for the athletes participating in the KPNest chess tournament. That is the reason why, for the first time in Vietnam, and also rarely in international tournaments, the prize for the championship title of the age groups is equal to the prize of the open group (gathering the top players in Vietnam and internationally). In addition, all athletes participating in the tournament are also drawn to receive valuable gifts. Also thanks to understanding the athletes' feelings, the tournament organizing committee organized a blitz chess competition with 15 games in 1 day. The number of games is more than usual to help athletes have more opportunities to compete and conquer in each of their groups. "Before organizing the tournament, I had many discussions with coaches, athletes, parents of athletes, experts... with the hope that the tournament will be a real playground for athletes, all for the athletes and for the development of Vietnamese chess", Ms. Phan Thi Thanh Truyen expressed.

Inspiration from Le Quang Liem

At the press conference announcing the KPNest chess tournament held yesterday at the Thanh Nien Newspaper office, journalist Lam Hieu Dung, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Thanh Nien Newspaper, the media sponsor of the tournament, said: "The success of Vietnam's No. 1 chess player Le Quang Liem, who is both a good student and a good chess player, is a great example and motivation for the younger generations. Thanks to his good chess skills, Le Quang Liem won a full scholarship to study abroad in the US, then graduated from university with two excellent degrees. Currently, Le Quang Liem is retained at the school as the head coach of the chess team and Director of the SPICE Chess Academy. Despite his busy schedule, Le Quang Liem still takes time to contribute to Vietnamese chess and accepts our invitation to participate in the tournament."

Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Trung, Vice President of the Vietnam Chess Federation and Vice President of the Ho Chi Minh City Chess Federation, confided: "As one of Vietnam's leading chess athletes, Le Quang Liem has made a strong impression on the international arena, bringing home many outstanding achievements for the country, while also raising the position of Vietnamese chess on the world map. We believe that the presence of Le Quang Liem not only creates attraction for the KPNest chess tournament, but is also a priceless source of spiritual encouragement, inspiring the young generation, who will continue the country's chess tradition."

Mr. Nguyen Tan Duc, a parent whose child participated in the KPNest chess tournament, shared that many Vietnamese chess players consider the super grandmaster Le Quang Liem as their idol and are eager to meet and interact with him. Therefore, participating in this KPNest chess tournament is an opportunity for them to realize their dreams.

According to information from the Organizing Committee, Le Quang Liem has accepted to compete in a friendly match with 35 athletes on November 30, then he will compete in the open group (men) in the main event on December 1. This is the first time in 10 years that the number 1 Vietnamese chess player, the 2013 world blitz chess champion, has returned to compete in a domestic tournament. As of yesterday, the KPNest chess tournament attracted 300 registered athletes; the registration deadline is before November 20.
