Le Quang Liem has Elo 2729, ranked 13th in the list of 206 players participating in the tournament and was exempted from the first round.

Quang Liem was awarded a place to compete in the 2025 World Cup thanks to his ranking on the FIDE world rankings.
Vietnamese chess was also awarded a place to attend the 2025 World Cup based on the team competition results at the 2024 Olympiad and the coaching board selected player Bang Gia Huy to participate.

In the first round, Bang Gia Huy lost to Belgian player Daniel Dardha with a score of 0-2, thereby taking an early step out of the tournament.
Before Gia Huy and Quang Liem, chess player Pham Le Thao Nguyen represented Vietnam in the 2025 Women's World Cup in July in Batumi (Georgia).
The 2025 Men's Chess World Cup has a prize fund of up to 2 million USD, of which the champion will receive a prize of 120,000 USD.
The tournament is held in a knockout format, over 8 rounds. In the first round, the top 50 players will be granted a bye and start from round 2, while the remaining 156 players will compete in round 1.
The competition format includes 8 rounds, each round consists of 2 standard games, if the result is a draw, a tie-break will be played.
Playing time for each side: 90 minutes for the first 40 moves, plus 30 minutes for the rest of the game, plus 30 seconds for each move from the first move.
If there is a tie-break (in case of a draw), the following times will be applied: 15 minutes + 10 seconds/move, 10 minutes + 10 seconds, 5 minutes + 3 seconds, 3 minutes + 2 seconds, and finally an Armageddon game to determine the winner.
