Recently, doctors at Viet Duc Friendship Hospital have issued some warnings to golfers.
Accordingly, golf is considered a healthy sport , however, like other sports , golfers can face the risk of injury, especially for young players who lack technique.
According to statistics, nearly 44% of injuries in young people are due to playing too much and lacking technique.

Swinging involves repetitive, high-speed movements of the neck, shoulders, spine, elbows, wrists, hips, knees, etc., which are prone to injury. Areas prone to injury are the shoulders, back, elbows, and wrists.
The main causes of injuries according to experts are insufficient warm-up, poor playing conditions, overplaying or overtraining, poor swing, and intermittent play.
Common injuries to the elbow and wrist include sprains, ligament injuries, joint capsule injuries, tendonitis, and tendinitis.
Pain on the medial side of the elbow joint, near the prominence of the bone (supratrochanteric process) due to inflammation of the flexor muscle attachment (golfer's elbow), pain increases when fully extending the wrist and fingers towards the back of the hand.
In addition, pain is also found on the outside of the elbow joint, near the prominence of the bone spur (the epicondyle), due to inflammation of the extensor muscle attachment point (Tennis'elbow).
Fracture of the hook bone (one of the eight small bones in the wrist, located near the lower end of the ulna). When the club hits the ground, the reaction force from the club directly impacts the contact area with the club, the hook bone. If the reaction force is strong enough, it can fracture the hook bone.
Vascular injury due to direct and repeated impact of the stick to the palm.
Hypothenar Hammer Syndrome is described by damage to a branch of the palmar artery when repeated blows weaken the vessel wall, leading to vasodilation, which can cause thrombosis.
Symptoms of the syndrome include localized pain in the palm or pain, numbness, and discoloration of the fingertips due to interruption of blood supply to the fingertips.
Doctors say that to avoid injury, players of this sport need to warm up properly and stretch before playing;
Gradually increase length and intensity of play before seasons; muscle training helps improve swing; Follow instructions from experts and coaches.
Playing sports should not be overdone, overtrained, or interrupted.
To limit wrist injuries, doctors recommend avoiding hitting too many balls on golf mats because they will transmit the reaction force through the club and the wrist is the place that is most affected.
Instead of playing on a practice mat, players should hit the ball more on natural grass because it will absorb most of the force when the club contacts the grass.
The grip of the club should be replaced with a larger, softer one if necessary; Reduce the force when holding the club.
