Not long after kissing his girlfriend, Van Bang (20 years old, Hangzhou, China) started having symptoms such as fever and sore throat. He thought it was the flu so he didn't worry much, but it wasn't until he had a fever for a week without getting better, and his neck even swelled up that he realized he had to go to the hospital.
At Hangzhou No. 1 People's Hospital, through B-ultrasound, the doctor discovered that Van Bang's neck lymph nodes were swollen and his liver function was abnormal.
After further examination, the cause was determined. The results showed that the EBV-related indicators were all positive, and he was immediately diagnosed with "acute EBV infection", commonly known as "kissing disease". The main transmission route of kissing disease is through saliva. The first person that Van Bang thought of when he heard this was his girlfriend, but there was nothing unusual about her body, how could she infect him?
In fact, EBV infection is widespread worldwide , mostly sporadic and locally prevalent in small areas, most of which manifest as asymptomatic latent infection.

Dr. Jin Jie, Director of the Department of Infectious Diseases at Hangzhou No. 1 People's Hospital, explained: More than 90% of adults carry EBV in their bodies, and the vast majority of them have been infected with the kissing virus latently. However, due to their strong resistance and complete immune response mechanism in the body, many people may not have any abnormal symptoms after being infected with the kissing virus.
Although EBV may not cause symptoms, adults carrying it are highly contagious to children and people with weakened immune systems. In other words, when a person carries EBV, even if they have no symptoms and test positive, the virus is still contagious.
Not only that, the symptoms of the "kissing disease" are also extremely confusing. Fortunately, Van Bang discovered it in time and received treatment, and is now recovering. If he had not discovered it in time, the EBV virus could have invaded more tissues and organs if it had continued to develop.
Doctors say that early recognition and treatment of symptoms are very important for kissing disease, the initial symptoms of EBV infection are similar to those of the flu such as fever, runny nose, sore throat... so it is easy to confuse. The most typical symptom of kissing disease is recurrent fever, usually lasting at least 5-7 days and not going away, fever caused by a common cold or flu will subside within 3-5 days.
Therefore, as long as the fever persists, especially in children and people with poor immunity, do not try to self-treat but go to the hospital in time to avoid delaying the treatment process.
