The boy who sings Hoang Thi Tho's music makes famous singer Thai Chau cry

Tran Minh Dung recreates the image of musician Hoang Thi Tho while living abroad.

Episode 11 of The Storyteller aired with the competition of Leo Minh Tuan, Tran Minh Dung and Nguyen Yunie. The three contestants performed a series of famous songs by musician Hoang Thi Tho on stage, under the evaluation of the panel of judges including famous singer Thai Chau, Meritorious Artist Van Khanh and singer Duong Hong Loan.

During the competition night, Tran Minh Dung chose the song Mai that chieu to compete. He recreated the period when musician Hoang Thi Tho was living and working abroad, but his heart still turned towards his homeland. The male musician always wanted his products to carry the simple image of the country.

Successfully evoking the image of musician Hoang Thi Tho, Tran Minh Dung received praise from Meritorious Artist Van Khanh. She said that the male contestant had completed the test well, from singing to acting. The female judge added: "I must say that you were very clever in choosing the song Mai Tranh Chieu because it suits your voice very well. When you sang the first sentence, it was so numbing to hear."

Thai Chau burst into tears and praised Tran Minh Dung.

For Duong Hong Loan, the male contestant was smart in choosing a suitable song and investing in learning about the performance. The female judge commented that the junior performed naturally, like a storyteller on stage, making her choke up. “I don’t know what else to say other than congratulations on a very emotional performance,” Duong Hong Loan commented.

As for famous singer Thai Chau, he could not hold back his tears because he sympathized with those who are far from their homeland, especially when they cannot reunite with their families during Tet. “Luckily, I am in my homeland. Not to mention those who are in a foreign land, if they heard you sing, how could they bear it?”, the male artist burst into tears.

He choked up: “Listening to Dung sing, I couldn’t help but feel moved. You sing very well, fully expressing the feelings and meanings that musician Hoang Thi Tho conveyed in the song. Dung’s vibrato following the chords sounds soulful and emotional. Sometimes, I feel like you are talking to life and making the listener moved.” Successfully performing the song Mai thatch chieu , Tran Minh Dung received two 10s from judges Thai Chau and Duong Hong Loan.
