Social media recently went viral with the news that "Truth Search AI" - an artificial intelligence chatbot in testing on US President Donald Trump's Truth Social platform - was caught publicly giving responses that overturned his own statements on tariffs, the 2020 election, the Capitol riots, food prices and war.
Reversing many of Mr. Trump's views
Occupy Democrats posted an article describing the chatbot as "suddenly rebellious and starting to tell the truth about Mr. Trump," with a series of answers that contradicted his long-standing arguments. The post quickly gained attention, attracting more than 184,000 likes and tens of thousands of comments and shares.
Fact-checking organization Snopes confirmed the information was accurate: Truth Social's AI chatbot did indeed give responses described as "rebellious."
Specifically, when asked "Do the tariffs proposed by Donald Trump cost Americans money?", Truth Search AI answered "Yes" and explained that the tax on imported goods is paid by American businesses and then passed on to the selling price, causing American businesses and consumers to bear the cost.
This response contradicts Mr. Trump's statement that tariffs "have nothing to do with the American people."
To the question "Did Donald Trump lie when he claimed the 2020 election was rigged?", the chatbot continued to answer "Yes", citing the conclusion of the court and his own advisers that there was no evidence that the election was "manipulated" or "stolen".
Notably, when asked "Was the mob that attacked the Capitol on January 6, 2020 because of Mr. Trump?", Truth Search AI cited investigative documents and participant testimonies, claiming that the incident was carried out by groups supporting Mr. Trump after false claims of election fraud and efforts to pressure to prevent certification of the results.
This information is even more remarkable when, during his second term (January 2025), Mr. Trump pardoned more than 1,500 people who were prosecuted, including those who attacked the police and far-right leaders convicted of plotting violence to prevent the transfer of power.
New series of controversial responses
Additionally, to the question "How many wars has Trump ended since January 2025?", the chatbot replied: "None."
According to Snopes, although the Trump administration has helped broker some temporary ceasefires, the conflicts have not been “ended” as claimed. Some countries have also rejected Washington’s role in brokering peace .
Regarding food prices, while Mr. Trump said prices are "falling," Truth Search AI responded "No," citing inflation data showing that prices in 2025 will still be higher than the same period, just at a slower rate of increase. Previous press reports also recorded a 2.7% increase in food prices in September 2025 compared to the previous year.
Snopes went on to ask: "Did the Republican-led Senate Intelligence Committee conclude that the Trump campaign in 2016 interacted with Russian intelligence in a way that threatened U.S. security and that his associates were willing to accept assistance from Russia?"
Truth Search AI confirmed "Yes" and cited a 2020 report that identified Russian interference as a "serious counterintelligence threat" and that many of Trump's associates were open to receiving assistance from Moscow.
In short, the AI chatbot being tested on Truth Social consistently gave responses that contradicted Mr. Trump's views.
Snopes contacted the White House, but spokesman Kush Desai only responded to the tariff issue. He said the US government "has always maintained that the cost of tariffs is borne by foreign exporters" and stressed that American consumers have the power to pressure exporters to pay for them.
The organization also contacted Trump Media & Technology Group, the owner of Truth Social, but has not received a response. In an August 2025 statement, the company said Truth Search AI uses Perplexity AI's platform technology.
