A fire at a motel in Guizhou province, southern China, killed nine people and injured two.
Authorities in Liping County, Guizhou Province, said the fire broke out at a motel in Shaoxing Town at 1:02 a.m. (0:02 a.m. Hanoi time) on August 18 and was extinguished about 30 minutes later. The area of the fire was about 240 square meters.
The fire killed nine people and injured two, and left several nearby homes without power. Local authorities have set up a task force to investigate the cause of the fire and find ways to address potential hazards.

The inn is located near a local tourist attraction, with room rates ranging from $37 to $55. There were no rooms available at the time of the fire, Chinese media reported.
Several local fire departments on August 18 reminded tourists to be cautious as home-stay tourism has become popular in recent years.
Shaoxing Village is located in the center of the town of the same name, with more than 1,000 households and nearly 6,000 residents, mainly Dong ethnic minority people. This is a famous tourist destination with 5 drum towers that are praised as "stunning".
