According to expert Fabrizio Romano, the transfer deal for Nkunku between RB Leipzig was actually finalized in the summer transfer window of 2022. The fee is around 60 million euros.
Nkunku graduated from the famous French national football academy Clairefontaine and began his professional career at Paris Saint-Germain. Here, the striker born in 1997 made 78 appearances for the first team, winning 3 Ligue 1 titles and 2 Coupe de France titles before moving to RB Leipzig in the summer of 2019.
The move to the Bundesliga was certainly the right move for Nkunku, who has built a reputation as one of the best strikers in European football. The France international's peak season came in the 2021/22 season, when he scored 35 goals in all competitions to help RB Leipzig win the German Cup. That same year, Nkunku was named Bundesliga Player of the Season and German PFA Player of the Season.
In the 2022/23 season, despite being affected by injuries, Nkunku still scored 23 goals. Of which, 16 were in the Bundesliga, helping the 25-year-old striker win the Golden Boot. Nkunku's brilliance greatly contributed to Leipzig's third-place finish in the Bundesliga and successful defense of the German Cup.
