Chi Pu and the incident of being detained by Chinese customs at Shanghai airport

On May 12, Chi Pu's manager shared that she and her crew had an accident at Shanghai airport while transiting to Hunan to film Dap Gio 2023 in early April. Among dozens of luggage brought from Vietnam, Chi Pu's crew used 2 packages to contain fresh green rice and green rice cakes as gifts for the sisters in Dap Gio 2023.

“However, because of these two pieces of luggage that were ‘considered suspicious’, Chi Pu was detained at Shanghai airport for baggage inspection during transit. By the time the customs officers finished checking and found everything normal, the plane to Hunan had already left. Therefore, Chi Pu had to stay in the waiting room for 5 hours to wait for the next flight,” Chi Pu’s representative shared.

Explaining the reason for choosing fresh green rice and green rice cake, the manager said that these are specialties of Hanoi where Chi Pu was born. “I am happy that everyone said it was delicious. The ladies and members of the program crew all liked it. The image of fresh green rice wrapped in lotus leaves and a plate of Vietnamese green rice cake on air made us a little emotional and proud,” the manager revealed.

According to Chi Pu’s representative, all of her costumes in the show came from local Vietnamese bands. The red dress Chi Pu wore in the first MV and the show’s promotional video was from a purely Vietnamese local brand and cost only 830,000 VND.

The crew also added that Dap Gio 2023 is a cultural exchange season, so in addition to efforts to bring impressive performances, Chi Pu prioritizes how to make Vietnamese colors appear as much as possible on a stage with international friends participating, watched by audiences from many countries. And Vietnamese music is the first thing the crew thinks of.

“The first solo stage was completely prepared by the artist and crew. Each artist only had 1 minute and 30 seconds for a self-sufficient performance in all aspects from music , costumes to stage performance ideas. No dancers, no visual LED support, no props or stage set-up were strict requirements from the producer. This clearly created many limitations in terms of performance. Faced with this opening challenge, we agreed that it had to be a Vietnamese song, our own music,” said the manager.

Chi Pu is participating in the famous Chinese show Riding the Wind 2023 broadcast on Mango TV. This is the 4th season of the show Sisters Riding the Wind and Breaking the Waves . In the first episode aired on May 5, Chi Pu performed the song Rose . In particular, her continuous skirt-ripping performance surprised and received praise. She ranked 8th out of 33 contestants on the show.
