Details of 2 options for car owners to automatically extend the inspection period

If the plan is approved by the Government , cars will automatically have their service cycles extended without having to be re-inspected, which will help reduce congestion at inspection centers.

The Vietnam Register has just submitted to the Ministry of Transport a proposal to immediately extend the inspection cycle for vehicles subject to this regulation in Circular 02/2023/TT-BGTVT regulating the inspection of technical safety and environmental protection of road vehicles.

The Registry is developing two plans to look up and issue Certificates of Vehicles with Extended Inspection Cycles, expected to be implemented in May 2023.

According to the Vietnam Register, vehicle owners will not need to bring their vehicles for re-inspection, do not need to complete paperwork at the registration stations, but can receive a certificate of extended registration cycle in 2 ways:

First: Look up information on the Vietnam Register's inspection center application or look up online on the Register's electronic information portal.

Regarding the method of looking up information on the inspection center application, the Department of Registration said that currently the inspection center app/website has been widely used nationwide, customers can easily look up information on inspected vehicles.

In addition to allowing users to schedule inspections online, choose a suitable time and location, and avoid long waiting lines at inspection stations, this application will soon launch the "Registration Extension" feature for old vehicles that are subject to extended inspection cycles.

"This feature is similar to an electronic certificate for vehicle owners to use, helping to save time and effort for users, while also helping to reduce congestion at the inspection center. After entering correct and complete information, if the vehicle is accepted to extend the inspection cycle, the app will display a notification about the extension of the vehicle's inspection cycle.

A certificate of validity of the certificate and inspection stamp will be issued to the user. This certificate will have a QR-Code, when participating on the road, the traffic police force will scan the information through the code to authenticate the vehicle information," said the Department of Registration.

Second: With the online search method on the electronic information portal of the Vietnam Register, customers also enter complete information about the vehicle, including: license plate number, chassis number, technical safety and environmental protection inspection certificate number and verification code to check the vehicle's registration period.

Similarly, the Registry will issue a Certificate of Validity of the Certificate and an inspection stamp recording the vehicle's extended time. Vehicle owners can download it to their phones or print it out for use when participating in traffic.

According to the Department of Registration, if the plan to automatically extend the inspection cycle is approved by the Government, it will help vehicles to automatically extend the cycle without having to re-inspecte, and the current overload situation at registration centers will be resolved.

The Registry Department said the work is expected to be completed in May 2023.
