Details of activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Southern Liberation Day

In the last week of April, Ho Chi Minh City will host a series of large-scale cultural, artistic and festival events of national and international significance.

This morning, April 18, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism held a press conference to provide detailed information on activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025).

The Anniversary Ceremony is a particularly important political event of national scale, organized by the Party Central Committee, the National Assembly, the President, the Government, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and Ho Chi Minh City.

Connecting past - present - future

Speaking at the opening of the Press Conference, Permanent Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism , Mr. Le Hai Binh, said that this is an opportunity for every Vietnamese person to recall the historical moment exactly 50 years ago, a sacred moment that has entered the history of the nation as one of the most brilliant pages.

According to Deputy Minister Le Hai Binh, over the past 50 years, Vietnam has achieved many great achievements in the fields of economy, society, national defense, security, etc. and raised its position in the international arena. The country has overcome many difficulties and challenges, and the Vietnamese people, under the leadership of the Party and State, have strived to develop the economy and society, building a solid foundation for the future.

Before the country's important event, the Deputy Minister emphasized the story connecting the past to the present and the future, cherishing the values ​​of the previous generation who fought steadfastly and indomitably for the nation's independence and freedom...

Mr. Le Hai Binh said that in the last week of April, Ho Chi Minh City will host a series of large-scale cultural, artistic and festival events. This is not only an event for Ho Chi Minh City, but also an event of national stature and international significance.

"These days, throughout the S-shaped strip of land, especially in Ho Chi Minh City, we all deeply feel the exciting, bustling atmosphere, full of joy, pride and gratitude of all Vietnamese people. It is not only the emotion of millions of hearts in the country, but also the sharing and joy of international friends for the great event of the country," the Deputy Minister affirmed.

Also at the press conference, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Le Thi Thu Hang said that there will be more than 20 delegations from countries at all levels, more than 100 delegates representing peace movement organizations, anti-war movements... and international friends supporting Vietnam will attend.

Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang revealed: “For the first time, there will be a parade of 120 overseas Vietnamese, with diverse members, from those who have made great contributions to the cause of national reunification to outstanding young people, businessmen, and artists. Currently, the overseas Vietnamese delegation is in Da Nang... In particular, we are moved by the elderly who have also registered to participate in the parade, including former war correspondents who have always cared about and followed Vietnam... This event promises to leave a deep impression on international friends and has important significance not only for the Vietnamese people but also for the people of the world, especially in the context of the current international situation.”

Notably, to facilitate international news agencies, there will be a “Press Week” (from April 25 to May 1) for foreign reporters who are war correspondents; reporters from countries that supported Vietnam during the war, overseas reporters, etc.

Vice Chairwoman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, Ms. Tran Thi Dieu Thuy, said that the organizing committee will reserve 3 typical tours for reporters to work in the city: "Legend of the heroic commandos of Sac Forest", "Cu Chi, the land of steel and copper: underground tunnels", "From Mau Than to Xuan Dai Thang", with the expected time from April 24-26. Currently, 606 reporters from 81 press agencies nationwide and 122 foreign press reporters have registered to participate.

Details of the series of commemorative activities

Regarding the activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025), Ms. Tran Thi Dieu Thuy said that at the end of April, many key activities will take place in Ho Chi Minh City.

The highlight is the National Celebration Program held at 6:30 a.m. on April 30, 2025, on Le Duan Street, District 1 and some central streets of Ho Chi Minh City.

The parade program chaired by the Ministry of National Defense includes: 4 Parade blocks of the Honor Block, 36 parade blocks, 12 parade blocks. There are expected to be parade blocks of Laos and Cambodia in the Celebration.

The program is broadcast live on VTV1, Vietnam Television, Ho Chi Minh City Television and local Radio and Television Stations.

Previously, Ho Chi Minh City held an incense offering and flower offering ceremony to commemorate the heroic martyrs at 8:00 a.m. on April 29 at the Ho Chi Minh City Martyrs' Cemetery, the City Cemetery (Lac Canh), Ben Duoc Memorial Temple, the Cu Chi District Martyrs' Cemetery, the Ho Chi Minh City Policy Cemetery (Cu Chi District); the national historical site Nga Ba Giong (Hoc Mon District). The incense offering and flower offering ceremony to commemorate President Ho Chi Minh and President Ton Duc Thang on April 29 at the Central and City levels.

Along with that, Ho Chi Minh City organized the “Colors of Uncle Ho’s City” Festival from April 19-30. The highlight was the 3D Mapping art performance at the facade of the City Committee headquarters, combining light, sound and symphony and choral music.

At Bach Dang Wharf Park, flower lantern boats, traditional music, water sports performances (Flyboard, Sailing, water jet...) will create a unique performance space on the Saigon River. In particular, on the night of April 19, there will be a performance of 2,000 drones, combined with artistic fireworks to light up the city sky, bringing a memorable experience to the audience.

The film exhibition “Echoes of the Great Victory of Spring 1975” with 300 precious documentary photos and community film screenings will take place on the nights of April 27 and 28 at Nguyen Hue - Ngo Duc Ke stage. The special art program “National Reunification Day” will be held and broadcast live nationwide at Thong Nhat Hall, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City, on the evening of April 30, 2025.

At the same time, Ho Chi Minh City will coordinate with the Central Ministries and Branches to organize art programs to celebrate. The outdoor art program "The Country is Full of Joy" on April 20, 2025 at Thong Nhat Hall. The special concert program with the theme "Symphony of Peace" on the evening of April 21, 2025 at Ho Chi Minh City Theater...

The Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee added that the City has planned to organize a variety of welcoming activities on 2 Saturday evenings, April 19 and 26, 2025 and key days April 29 and 30, 2025 at Nguyen Hue walking street, Bach Dang Wharf - Saigon River area...; Districts: 1, 4, 6, 7, 8, 11, 12, Tan Phu, Binh Tan; Districts: Can Gio, Nha Be and Thu Duc City.

In addition, the City has directed departments, branches, localities, and units to organize a peak communication campaign for the activities of the 50th Anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day, in 2 phases (phase 1 from April 7-25; phase 2 from April 26-May 2) to create a positive ripple effect to the majority of people./.

Speaking at a press conference to direct the information and propaganda work for the anniversary, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission, Ms. Dinh Thi Mai affirmed that it is necessary to always put the interests of the nation and people above all, refute false information and arguments; focus on propaganda, deeply mentioning the great contributions of our people, previous generations and the support of international friends.

Ms. Dinh Thi Mai suggested focusing on widely disseminating the value, stature and historical significance of the Southern Liberation and National Reunification Day; as well as the country's achievements over the past 50 years and the leadership of the Party and State in the coming time.
