Taiping Ancient Town is famous for its long history, built during the Taiping Reconstruction period of Emperor Song Taizong (976 - 997). After many historical ups and downs and the process of urban expansion, this place was destroyed quite a lot. In 2006, the local government restored and preserved this old town, turning it into an attractive tourist destination.
During the day, the gray stone roads, the ancient two-story houses with moss-covered yin-yang tiled roofs, or the semicircular stone bridges across the Ta Giang River create the characteristic poetic beauty of Thai Binh ancient town.
When night falls, the riverside roads suddenly become magical thanks to thousands of colorful lanterns reflecting light on the calm water surface.
From afar, the leaning tower of Que Long - the symbol of Thai Binh ancient town, located on a stone island in the middle of the river, has a 1.4m tilt like a lamp hanging in the night sky.
On weekends, visitors will enjoy many cultural and artistic performances, especially the performance of thousands of drones (unmanned aerial vehicles) continuously arranged into unique paintings, carrying the message of hospitality of the people of Chongzuo city.
In addition, there is the performance of “Iron men” flying in the air with the support of a water flying board (flyboard). These “Iron men” not only fly, glide, and somersault in the air with fire but also happily dance with lions and interact, take pictures with tourists, helping tourists to have “one-of-a-kind” and emotional pictures.
Another highlight is the “Iron Flower Strike” performance, which originated from ancient Chinese metallurgy. Legend has it that ancient blacksmiths used molten iron to strike the air to create brilliant sparks to pray for peace, ward off evil spirits, and receive blessings during furnace god worship ceremonies.
To create the brilliant iron flowers, people have to melt the iron to a temperature of over 1,600°C to turn it into liquid form. Then, the artisan uses a specialized ladle to toss the molten iron high up to create the sparkling fire flowers. These interesting experiences have helped Thai Binh ancient town become an attractive destination not to be missed.
