Appreciate rare wild bird photos
The Vietnam Wild Bird Contest opens applications for amateur and professional photographers, photography enthusiasts at home and abroad. Through this, the organizers hope that everyone will join hands to protect wild birds.
In addition, we hope to inspire photographers to search for rare species and capture beautiful moments of many wild birds in Vietnam. The time to receive entries is from August 1 to August 30, 2023.

Responding to Tuoi Tre Online 's question about the criteria for selecting the winning photo, Mr. Vo Quoc Thuan - a member of the contest's organizing committee - said: "The works I highly appreciate are those that capture rare, difficult-to-shoot, endemic and near-endemic bird species of Vietnam.
These species convey a very good message for environmental protection and wild bird protection."
Using unnatural photos has many harmful effects
Speaking more about the qualified entries, Mr. Thuan affirmed that photographers must take pictures of birds that are actually wild, not attached to nests or chicks.
"Because when taking pictures of nests, the line between taking pictures from far away or close up is very fragile. If the photographer is not conscious and wants to have a nice picture, they should trim the branches and nests of the baby birds.

While birds build nests partly for camouflage, to avoid other birds, and to cope with natural conditions.
Pruning will endanger the bird family. Second, the bird's nature will change when it knows that someone is trespassing, it will be aggressive, it can abandon the nest or force the chicks to eat a lot so that they will be born early while not fully developed.
In addition, it is possible to ban photos using unnatural birds, that is, buying birds and putting them in cages to take photos. This is similar to helping people illegally hunt wild birds," Mr. Thuan emphasized.
The organizers also discourage authors from taking staged photos, in areas where bird bait is used, or taking photos outside the natural distribution area of the bird species being photographed.
The contest and exhibition are jointly organized by Birdlife International, Vietnam Association for Research and Conservation of Wild Birds (VBCS), and Wild Research and Tourism Services Company Limited (WILDTOUR).
The number of awards is 13. The three notable awards are the most impressive endemic and near-endemic bird award; the most impressive rare bird award (listed in the IUCN Red List); and the most impressive shorebirds award.
