(QNO) - On the morning of May 14, Mr. Nguyen The Duc - Vice Chairman of Duy Xuyen District People's Committee said that the district has arranged functional forces to be on duty to block, direct traffic and put up warning signs for heavy-duty vehicles on the old Cau Lau bridge to ensure traffic safety for people and vehicles after a section of the railing cracked.
After the old Cau Lau bridge had a cracked railing, on the same day, authorities blocked it off, erected an iron fence around the broken railing, and posted signs prohibiting cars over 5 tons at both ends of the bridge.
On the evening of May 13, nearly 10 youth union members and militiamen of Nam Phuoc town were present to regularly patrol and keep watch to ensure the safety of people and vehicles passing through the bridge and promptly handle any bad situations that may arise.
It is known that the old Cau Lau bridge across the Thu Bon River, connecting Duy Xuyen district and Dien Ban town, is over 800m long. On May 13, the railing at span number 8 from the southern abutment of the bridge was cracked with a length of 11.5m and a height of 0.9m.
The western railing and handrail pillars also have cracks, broken concrete, exposed rusted steel, and are at risk of collapsing, posing a safety risk to the bridge and traffic participants.
In the long term, Duy Xuyen District People's Committee proposed that the Provincial People's Committee support funding for repairs, renovations, load testing to determine the traffic load limit, or assign the Department of Transport to manage and operate.
