President Newin must apologize for saying what he said but… not doing it.

Ahead of the clash between Hanoi Police Club (CAHN Club) and Buriram United Club in the opening match of the Southeast Asian Club Championship (Shopee Cup) on the evening of August 22, Buriram Chairman Newin Chidhob affirmed: "Buriram United came to visit CAHN Club to inform Vietnamese football fans about the quality and standards of the Thai League. We will let the whole of Southeast Asia know how classy the Thai League is. Our goal is not only to win but also to come to make a name for ourselves and create fame for the Thai League.

We came to not only take away 3 points from Hang Day Stadium, but also take the hearts of Vietnamese and Southeast Asian football fans. Buriram will strive to achieve the goal of being the first team to win the Southeast Asian C1 and announce the Thai League as the number one tournament in the region."

However, contrary to Mr. Newin's statement, Buriram lost 1-2 to CAHN Club. Two goals from Phan Van Duc and Alan Grafite helped the Vietnamese representative successfully defeat the reigning champion of the Thai League. CAHN Club played with a reasonable strategy, combined with the brilliance of new players like Alan and Vitao, coach Alexandre Polking's team got 3 important first points in Group B of the Southeast Asian Club Championship.

After the home team lost, Buriram's President Newin apologized to the fans: "I'm sorry. Buriram must not give up, but must do better in the following matches." To reach the next round, Buriram must achieve good results against the remaining teams in Group B such as Borneo Samarinda, Lion City Sailor FC, Kaya FC Iioilo and Kuala Lumpur City.

As for CAHN Club, the opening day victory helped this team rank second in the table, with the same 3 points as Borneo but ranked lower due to lower sub-index.

Coach Polking of CAHN Club also affirmed that it was the statements of President Newin of Buriram that motivated the Vietnamese representative to play better.
