Upon hearing of the serious train accident on the morning of March 1 in the city of Larisa in Northern Greece that caused many casualties and property losses, on March 6, President Vo Van Thuong sent a message of condolences to President Katerina Sakellaropoulou.
On the same day, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son also sent a message of condolences to Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias.

Earlier, in the early morning of March 1 in northern Greece, a passenger train collided with a freight train, killing 36 people and injuring nearly 100. At least three passenger carriages caught fire after the horrific collision, as the train was exiting a highway tunnel.
According to the rail operator Hellenic Train, the passenger train traveling from Athens to the city of Thessaloniki had about 350 passengers on board when the collision occurred. Most of the passengers are believed to be university students returning home after celebrating a festival.
Greek Deputy Health Minister Mina Gaga said it was a terrible tragedy and sent her condolences to the families of the victims.
