National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue successfully concludes working trip to Laos and Thailand

On the afternoon of December 10, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue and the high-ranking delegation of the Vietnamese National Assembly arrived at Noi Bai International Airport, successfully concluding their trip to attend the first Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam (CLV) Summit; visit and work in Laos; and officially visit Thailand.

With more than 60 dense and diverse activities, the working trip of National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue and his delegation achieved all the goals and requirements set out both bilaterally and multilaterally, which is a practical step in implementing the foreign policy of the 13th National Party Congress, Directive 25 of the Secretariat, raising the level of multilateral diplomacy and continuing to strengthen relations with neighboring countries in ASEAN, which are very important partners of Vietnam.

Regarding the first CLV National Assembly Summit, this is one of the important multilateral foreign affairs activities in 2023 of Vietnam's senior leaders and has achieved outstanding results.

The conference marks the elevation of cooperation between the three legislative bodies to the highest level, a step to realize the results achieved at the high-level meeting of the three Party leaders in September 2021; now the three countries have a meeting mechanism of the highest leaders of the Party, Government and National Assembly.

Through the Conference, the three countries will strengthen the role of the National Assembly in perfecting the legal framework, creating a favorable environment for cooperation; supervising the implementation of agreements; contributing to improving the effectiveness of cooperation, bringing practical results to the people of the CLV Development Triangle and the three countries.

The results of the Conference practically support further promoting the implementation of the Master Plan on Connecting the Three CLV Economies to 2030 and the Plan to Enhance Tourism in the CLV Development Triangle Area for the 2020-2025 period and vision to 2030.

The visit and work of National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue in Laos achieved comprehensive and substantive results. The Lao side gave National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue and his delegation a warm, thoughtful and friendly welcome.

The visit continues to affirm that Vietnam consistently gives top priority to the special, "unique" traditional relationship with Laos, and always stands side by side and strongly and comprehensively supports Laos's efforts to protect, build, innovate and develop.

The two sides exchanged views on many specific measures to promote cooperation between the two countries in general and between the two parliaments in particular; helping to effectively implement agreements between the two countries' senior leaders.

Lao senior leaders proactively discussed in a substantive and specific manner the difficulties and obstacles in a number of key projects; hoping to find solutions to remove them, create breakthroughs and fundamental changes in economic cooperation relations.

The visit and working session of National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue in Laos aims to prepare for the 46th meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee and high-level foreign affairs activities between the two countries in the coming time.

The two sides affirmed their determination to continue to closely coordinate and support each other at regional and international forums, especially at the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF)... and sub-regional cooperation mechanisms.

National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue affirmed that Vietnam supports and is ready to provide maximum assistance to Laos to successfully assume the role of ASEAN Chair and AIPA 2024.

The visit to Thailand is the first official visit by a senior Vietnamese leader to Thailand after Thailand had a new Government and coincides with the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Strategic Partnership between the two countries (2013-2023).

The thoughtful welcome, high level of respect and exceptions, and the warm affection that the Thai leaders and people have given to Vietnam and the Chairman of the National Assembly.

With a diverse and rich program of activities in Bangkok and Udon Thani, the National Assembly Chairman had talks and meetings with the highest leaders of Thailand; in particular, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue was also the first foreign National Assembly Chairman to meet with the King and Queen of Thailand.

During the visit, the National Assembly Chairman met and discussed with many people, both central and local, the business communities of the two countries and a large number of overseas Vietnamese in Thailand. The National Assembly Chairman delivered an important policy speech at Chulalongkorn University with the business communities of the two countries.

The Thai leaders affirmed that Vietnam is an important partner of Thailand in the region; agreed on major directions to further deepen the Strategic Partnership. In particular, the Thai leaders agreed with and appreciated the message of “Win-win cooperation, mutual benefit instead of competition” by National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue. The Thai Prime Minister wishes to upgrade the relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during the Prime Minister's visit to Vietnam in 2024.

The two sides agreed to promote the implementation of the Cooperation Agreement between the two National Assemblies (signed on this occasion) to contribute to deepening the cooperation contents between the two legislative bodies and further promoting the role of the Parliament in promoting bilateral cooperation.

The two sides discussed measures to effectively implement the “Three Connections” strategy, including connecting supply chains, businesses and localities of the two countries; expanding cooperation in new areas such as green economy, digital economy, renewable energy, and equitable energy transition to effectively connect the sustainable development strategies of the two countries.

The King and Thai leaders affirmed that they will continue to facilitate the community of more than 100,000 Vietnamese and overseas Vietnamese in Thailand; support the promotion of Vietnamese historical and cultural values in Thailand, including President Ho Chi Minh relic sites, 25 Vietnamese pagodas, and the first Vietnamese Street in Udon Thani province.

The two sides share a common strategic vision for the region and cooperate at regional and international parliamentary forums (AIPA, IPU, APPF)...

Thai media reported widely and highly appreciated the significance and results of the official visit of National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue and the high-ranking delegation of the Vietnamese National Assembly to the Kingdom of Thailand; praised the strongly developing strategic partnership as well as the great potential for cooperation between the two countries.
