Recently, “grandfather” Nguyen Xuan Khang, President of Marie Curie School, traveled 300 kilometers to visit 22 children from Lang Nu (Bao Yen, Lao Cai ) who survived the terrible flood and whom he adopted until they were 18 years old. The meeting between grandfather and grandson was filled with tears, overwhelming emotions and memories.
Sharing with Dan Viet newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Khang, President of Marie Curie School, was still overwhelmed and emotional after the trip. Mr. Khang said: "During the 2 days of meeting, there were countless emotional stories between him and the children, between Mr. Khang and the people of Lang Nu and the teachers of Phuc Khanh Primary and Secondary School No. 1 located in Lang Nu. When leaving, everyone was sad and reluctant until the moment of parting. Tears of the day of meeting and tears of parting."

Teacher Khang recalled that when he first arrived in Lang Nu, he visited the home of Bao and Phuc (who lost both their parents). Bao (7 years old, in 2nd grade), sat on his grandfather's lap, pulled his pants up to his groin, and "showed" him the 20cm surgical wound that Viet Duc Hospital stitched up after treating his right femur fracture. At that time, teacher Khang asked: "Do you feel pain? Do you want to accept teacher Khang as your grandfather?". Bao said "I don't feel pain" and turned back to kiss his cheek, wanting to accept him as my grandfather.

In the evening, teacher Khang invited the Mong girl Hoang Thao Ngoc (grade 6) to dinner with the principal of Phuc Khanh primary and secondary school number 1. Bach Mai Hospital doctors and Japanese experts said: Thao Ngoc's survival is a "miracle" of medicine.
"The teacher gave Thao Ngoc a piece of carrot and asked what kind of meat was it that was so red? The teacher tested it and Ngoc replied: It's not meat, it's carrot. The teacher was happy, it turned out Ngoc was normal now.
Hoang Ngoc Lan (grade 1) is currently living with her grandmother. Her parents and younger siblings died in the flood. Ngoc Lan is a quiet person. The biggest shock of her life will never subside. The teacher hugged her, wanting to pass on some warmth to her. All 22 children were very lovely, gathered around him from the moment he arrived until the moment he said goodbye," said teacher Khang.

During the visit to Lang Nu, Mr. Khang and the delegation went to burn incense at the memorial for the victims swept away by the flood. Mr. Khang was silent, after burning the incense, he cried and then approached the stele, touching each name engraved on it with tears in his eyes. That space also made everyone unable to hold back their tears.
In particular, in the cozy small classroom of Phuc Khanh Primary and Secondary School No. 1, all 22 grandchildren that Mr. Khang "adopted" were present. Mr. Khang meticulously and carefully made a birthday list for the "big family of 23 grandparents and grandchildren". He said: "He was "at the bottom" because he was born at the end of the year - December". And Mr. Khang was given a surprise, warm birthday party by the 22 grandchildren right at Lang Nu.

"Coming here to see the children, I feel more secure. And I have faith that I will live at least 15 more years to see the two youngest children, Gia Han and Khanh Ngan, grow up. I will stay healthy to live to 90 years old and take a special photo number 2 with the children in 2039.
Special photo number 1 was taken on December 22, 2024 at Nu Village. Every year, on this day, the 23 grandparents and grandchildren will take photos and send them to each other to update the situation.
Special photo number 2 will be taken on December 22, 2039, 15 years later in Hanoi . You and I will stand in the same position as today. At that time, Khanh Ngan and Gia Han will be 18 years old," the teacher said.

The moment 23 grandparents and grandchildren signed the promise "Grandpa, stay healthy. Grandchild, study hard" was like a promise, a belief that "15 years later, 23 grandparents and grandchildren will meet again, take special photo number 2".
