This land is known for its heroic history, marking glorious victories during the resistance war against French colonialism and American imperialism. The people here always firmly cling to the sea and the village to fight to protect their homeland and the sea of the Fatherland. Today, My Thuy is gradually changing its appearance with large projects, bright red tiled roofs, and ships cutting through the waves to cling to the sea.
In particular, on January 4, 2019, the Government issued Decision No. 16/QD-TTg approving the investment policy for the construction of My Thuy port area, Hai An commune. Accordingly, the investment project to build My Thuy port area has a total investment of VND 14,234 billion, of which the investor's capital is VND 2,143 billion, and capital mobilized from other sources is VND 12,091 billion. The project has a duration of 50 years from the date of investment policy decision, invested by My Thuy International Port Joint Stock Company, with a scale of 685 hectares including 10 ports, capable of receiving ships with a capacity of 10,000 tons. My Thuy port area project mainly serves the Southeast Quang Tri coastal economic zone. This is good news opening up prospects for the development of My Thuy sea tourism in the future.
Seizing the opportunity, in recent years, in addition to exploiting and effectively using marine tourism resources, Hai An commune authorities have creatively applied mechanisms and policies, mobilized resources to improve the countryside, invest in construction, upgrade infrastructure systems, build technical facilities to serve marine tourism, promote tourism development, greatly contribute to local socio-economic development; create jobs, protect the ecological environment, bring the image of green - clean - beautiful My Thuy to friends inside and outside the province.
To attract tourists, every year, on the occasion of Vietnam Sea and Islands Week and World Oceans Day (June 8), at My Thuy beach, Quang Tri Provincial Youth Union in coordination with Quang Tri Border Guard Command organizes the campaign "Let's clean the sea" and Green Sunday. Immediately after the launching ceremony, more than 500 union members, youth, cadres, soldiers and local people cleaned the environment along My Thuy beach; collected, classified and processed more than 1 ton of plastic waste, household waste... and cleaned up campuses, schools and units in the area. Within the framework of the program, the Provincial Youth Union Standing Committee, Quang Tri Provincial Border Guard Command coordinated with agencies and units to present 370 national flags to fishing households; 10 gifts to disadvantaged students in Hai An commune. In addition, the units also donated 9 garbage sorting bins to Hai An Primary and Secondary School, and 10 stone benches to Hai Lang District Youth Union.
This is one of the environmental protection activities regularly organized by the youth of Quang Tri province to raise awareness and responsibility of union members, youth and the community in protecting the marine environment, limiting plastic waste, joining hands to build a green - clean - beautiful environment, and responding to climate change.
The interesting highlight when coming to My Thuy beach is the "Carp trash bin" located in the center of the beach. This "Carp trash bin" is a project "Youth join hands to protect the marine environment" jointly handed over by the Quang Tri Provincial Youth Union, Hai An Border Guard Station Youth Union, Quang Tri Border Guard to My Thuy Village Youth Union and My Thuy Beach Management Board to raise awareness of environmental protection for tourists visiting, traveling, and swimming. This project is designed in the shape of a carp with high-strength steel material, decorated with many unique patterns and colors, easily attracting the attention of tourists; printed on it is a slogan promoting environmental protection, so every time people come here to dump trash, it will be an opportunity to remind them to raise awareness of garbage collection and join hands to protect the marine environment. The bin can hold from 100 to 150kg of trash.
It is known that during peak times when there are many tourists, the unit will coordinate with the locality to make more "Carp trash bins" placed in convenient locations so that tourists can throw trash in the right place, contributing to protecting the environment clean and beautiful.
Through the “Carp Trash Bin” model, the message: “Take action to protect the environment, protect the sea for the health and life of each person” is expected to spread to tourists and local people. It only takes 1 to 2 minutes to classify garbage and dispose of it in the right place, so if we all act together and maintain it regularly, it will create great results, which are clean and beautiful beaches, fresh air, a green - clean - beautiful living environment not only for ourselves but also for future generations.
Thanks to the above unique features, My Thuy beach is increasingly attracting more tourists. In 2020, the number of visitors to My Thuy beach increased again, from 50,000 in 2017 to 85,000 in 2020 (an average increase of 15%). Coming here, visitors will be able to enjoy swimming in the clear blue water, walking along the white sand, participating in teambuilding games and many other interesting things...
In addition to the common characteristics of “blue sea, white sand, yellow sunshine”, My Thuy beach also has many interesting and attractive things that attract tourists: Natural rocky cliffs where tourists love to take pictures. Thanks to these rocky cliffs, My Thuy beach is rarely eroded by waves all year round, always peaceful and retains its pristine beauty.
More interestingly, when the sunset falls, the ripples make the beach look more magical than ever. The special thing is that the ripples at My Thuy beach are very gentle and rarely have big waves, so it is very suitable for families with small children.
If not long ago, My Thuy fishing village was just a small coastal hamlet, with a hard and difficult life, My Thuy today has changed a lot. My Thuy has become a land with rich tourism potential, a clean and beautiful green beach, a future seaport promoting the development of the Southeast Quang Tri coastal economic zone, demonstrating the determination to protect and maintain the sacred sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland.
