'The Vietnamese Studies Program at Columbia University helps spread culture to the world'

The President emphasized that Columbia University is a major partner, having had good cooperative relations with Vietnam over many years, especially the establishment of the "Vietnam Studies Program."

According to VNA special correspondent, on the afternoon of September 24, on the occasion of attending activities of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly and working in the United States, President Luong Cuong received leaders of the Weatherhead East Asia Institute and the Vietnam Program of Columbia University.

Expressing his pleasure at meeting Professor Nguyen Lien Hang, who has made many positive contributions to the development of bilateral relations, including the founding of the Vietnam Studies Program at Columbia University in 2017, the President congratulated the achievements of Columbia University, which is considered one of the leading educational centers of the United States, where many generations of US leaders and famous scientists have been trained; and many Vietnamese students have also studied and grown up. Columbia University is also a place with an active voice in promoting Vietnam-US relations.

The President affirmed that Vietnam considers the United States a partner of top strategic importance and wishes to continue to deepen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership framework, making it effective and sustainable, actively contributing to peace , stability and prosperity in the region and the world.

The President emphasized that the cooperation in the field of education and training between the two countries has recorded positive signals and Columbia University is a major partner, having had good cooperative relations with Vietnam over the past many years, especially the establishment of the "Vietnam Studies Program", thereby contributing to spreading Vietnamese culture, helping to further enhance understanding of the country and people of Vietnam in the host country.

The President believes and hopes that with the long-standing friendship and partnership as well as the deep understanding, affection and attachment of Professor Nguyen Lien Hang and his colleagues to Vietnam, they will continue to support and promote substantive cooperation between Columbia University and Vietnam, thereby contributing to the development of the relationship between the two countries, in which the Vietnamese studies curriculum at Columbia University will be increasingly strengthened, attracting the participation of a large number of students.

Expressing his gratitude to the President for taking the time to meet him, Professor Nguyen Lien Hang affirmed that she will continue to promote cooperation activities with Vietnam, especially the contents that the Weatherland East Asia Institute and the Vietnam Studies Program of Columbia University are implementing; as well as wishing to further develop and expand courses on Vietnam.

Professors and scientists attending the reception also expressed their honor to attend and their impressions of the solemn Reception program to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025) on the occasion of the President's attendance at the High-level General Debate of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, combined with bilateral activities in the United States. Especially the art programs at the reception program.

Professor Nguyen Lien Hang and other professors expressed their desire to build a global Vietnam program; connecting Vietnamese and American higher education institutions, including Columbia University.

The professors also presented to the President about initiatives in the Vietnam Global program including: Initiatives related to art issues aiming to promote Vietnamese culture, art, language, and beauty to the world; some issues on technology, energy, and improving information technology capacity for development in the coming time; Vietnam policy dialogue program within the Vietnam studies program, as well as teaching Vietnamese history in the best possible way at Columbia University./.
