Digital transformation is an opportunity for the press to maintain its guiding role

Sharing that Hanoi is honored to be the host of the Northern Party Newspaper Conference - a meaningful event to celebrate the country's major holidays and towards the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day, comrade Nguyen Doan Toan commented: "This conference with the theme: "Promoting the tradition of revolutionary journalism, pioneering digital transformation, accompanying the country into the new era" is an important forum for Party press agencies to exchange and share experiences, and together find solutions to improve the quality of journalism activities in the context of comprehensive digital transformation".

The press accompanies and makes important contributions to the development of the Capital.

Briefly reporting on the situation and results of the construction and development of the Capital, the Head of the Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department of the Hanoi Party Committee said that in recent years, under the leadership of the Central Government, together with the determination of the entire Party Committee, government and people of the Capital, Hanoi has achieved many important and comprehensive achievements in all fields.

The capital's economy maintains high growth. In 2024, the city's gross regional domestic product (GRDP) will increase by 6.52%; state budget revenue will exceed VND500 trillion for the first time (reaching VND513 trillion - the highest in the country, up nearly 28.3% compared to 2023).

In the first quarter of 2025, in the context of many fluctuations in the world situation, negatively affecting economic development, Hanoi's GRDP still increased by 7.35% over the same period. State budget revenue in the first 4 months of 2025 is estimated at 310,000 billion VND, equivalent to 61.4% of the annual estimate and an increase of 58.9% over the same period.

The economic structure has shifted positively towards modernity; the quality of life of the people has been increasingly improved; the urban appearance has become more and more spacious. Political security and social order and safety have been maintained; national defense has been consolidated. The position and prestige of the capital have been increasingly affirmed.

In particular, Hanoi is a pioneer in implementing major policies of the Central Government, such as rearranging administrative units at the commune and ward levels and streamlining the apparatus. Recently, the city has completed the construction of a rearrangement project, reducing from 526 to 126 commune-level units - ensuring progress, quality and creating high consensus in both the political system and the people.

Comrade Nguyen Doan Toan emphasized that the press has made a very important contribution to Hanoi’s achievements. He expressed his deep gratitude to the press nationwide for their constant attention, support, and companionship with the capital over the years.

Create all favorable conditions for the press to operate effectively.

According to the Head of the Hanoi Party Committee's Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department, the city is deeply aware of the particularly important role and position of the press in the cause of building and developing the capital and always pays attention to and creates favorable conditions for the press to operate effectively. Every year, the city organizes intimate meetings with journalists to listen to their thoughts, resolve difficulties and orient propaganda; proactively opens many information channels, promptly and fully provides information on the socio-economic development situation, major policies and guidelines of the city, creating conditions for the press to have rich and accurate sources of documents to serve information and propaganda work.

Hanoi also organizes press awards such as: Press Award for Party Building and the Political System of Hanoi City; Press Award for Cultural Development and Building Elegant and Civilized Hanoians; Ngo Tat To Press Award... which have created a "playground" with strong encouragement for the press of the Capital and the whole country to continue to explore, create, improve the quality of information and propaganda, actively contributing to the cause of building and developing the Capital and the country.

Most recently, on May 9, 2025, Hanoi city inaugurated the Capital Press Center to put into operation a modern, multi-functional press institution, serving as a focal point for providing, coordinating and processing press information of the city; as well as receiving, synthesizing and providing official information from departments, branches, sectors and localities; supporting the press to access news sources quickly, fully and promptly.

Innovate and adapt to affirm role and mission

Referring to the content of the conference, Head of the Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department of the Hanoi Party Committee Nguyen Doan Toan shared that we are living in a new era - the era of digital transformation, where digital technology becomes the foundation of development. In that context, revolutionary journalism needs to constantly innovate, adapt, and take advantage of opportunities to affirm its role and promote its mission in the new situation. Digital transformation is not only an objective requirement but also an opportunity to improve communication effectiveness, increase the spread and maintain the role of guiding public opinion.

“The organization of this workshop is a testament to the proactiveness and sensitivity of the Northern Party Newspaper in general, and Hanoi Moi Newspaper in particular, in anticipating trends. This is an opportunity for press agencies to exchange experiences, spread good practices, and contribute to improving the quality of operations in the context of streamlining the apparatus and reorganizing the press according to the Central's direction,” said the Head of the Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department of the Hanoi Party Committee.

Appreciating the sense of responsibility, efforts to overcome difficulties, solidarity and innovation of the Party's press agencies in the past time, comrade Nguyen Doan Toan believes that, with a strong political stance and glorious tradition, the team of revolutionary journalists will continue to promote their pioneering role in digital transformation, actively contributing to the cause of building the Capital and the country to become increasingly rich, civilized and modern.
