Accordingly, the English exam for grade 10 will be different in each province, but the knowledge in the exam and the types of questions appearing in the exam are the same. Therefore, students must make sure that they have mastered the important types of knowledge that they have learned in the secondary school program, especially the grade 9 English program.
These are important knowledge related to word classes. You have to recognize nouns, adjectives, adverbs, conjunctions and prepositions, as well as their roles and positions in sentences. These are easy questions, and you are not allowed to lose points for these questions.
Next is knowledge related to verbs such as verb tenses, verb forms (such as gerunds, verbs with “to” and infinitives), and passive forms of verbs. This knowledge content is relatively complicated, so students need to study carefully and do many exercises to be able to get the most points possible.
After mastering the knowledge of word parts, you also need to make sure that you remember important English structures to help you solve the questions about sentence rewriting as well as reading comprehension.
Sentence rewriting structures that often appear in English exams will usually be in the knowledge of comparing adjectives and adverbs, relative clauses, passive sentences, and conditional sentences.
According to teacher Nguyen Trung Nguyen, the rewriting question is not too difficult. As long as you remember the grammar structures mentioned above, you can confidently handle these questions without any difficulty.
“Next, you should equip yourself with a lot of vocabulary because if you don't have enough vocabulary, you won't be able to do well in reading comprehension and fill-in-the-blank exercises.
The vocabulary in the English exam for grade 10 will mainly be from the English program that students learn in the English program for grade 9. Specifically, these are the vocabulary that appear in reading and listening passages. If you still have a lot of time to review English, try to translate the reading and listening passages to further consolidate your vocabulary," Mr. Nguyen shared.
According to Mr. Nguyen, reading comprehension and filling in the blanks always cause many difficulties for students, most of them are afraid because they do not have much vocabulary. Students know their weak points in vocabulary, they should try to overcome them as soon as possible.
Only when you have enough knowledge of grammar and vocabulary can you confidently complete difficult exercises such as finding mistakes in sentences, finding synonyms and antonyms. Don’t forget about pronunciation and stress questions – they are all simple questions. They usually focus on the sounds that we have already noticed.
Finally, according to the exam style in recent years, to achieve 7-8 points in English, students only need to thoroughly study the knowledge taught in the secondary school program.
However, to get 9 and 10 points, we need to expand our vocabulary beyond the textbook program. Add more advanced knowledge about noun phrases, relative clauses, noun clauses, inversion or prepositions.
Along with that, practice a lot with previous years' exam questions to improve your test-taking skills, and absolutely do not be subjective with any question no matter how easy it is.
For those of you who are in grade 8, I hope that you have started worrying about the grade 10 entrance exam a year ago so that you can know what you will learn and how to learn.
