Talking to Tuoi Tre Online about the 10th grade benchmark score in 2025 decreasing too much, Ms. Bui My Thuy, vice principal of Gia Dinh High School, Ho Chi Minh City, said that according to the list of candidates admitted to Gia Dinh High School for the 10th grade in the 2025-2026 school year that the Ho Chi Minh City Departmentof Education and Training transferred, the number of students with scores from 18.75 to under 20 points was only 27. That is, only 3% of students out of a total of 846 students achieved a benchmark score below 20 points.
The remaining 64% of students scored 23 points or more, 33% scored 20 - 22.75 points. Of these, 21% scored 25 points or more. Notably, this year's admission season had 10 students scoring 27 points or more admitted to grade 10 at Gia Dinh High School.

Grade 10 enrollment quota increases "dramatically"
Explaining the reduction in the 10th grade benchmark score by 4.25 points compared to 2024 (this year's benchmark score is 18.75; in 2024 it is 23 points), Ms. Thuy said: "This year is the first year the school does not enroll specialized 10th grade students. Instead, the school has been assigned 270 more quotas by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training compared to last year. Therefore, the total quota for regular 10th grade students in the 2025-2026 school year of Gia Dinh High School has increased to a record level: 846 students. However, if calculating the average entrance score of 10th grade students in 2025, it is 23.42; while in 2024 it is 23.91. That is, there is a decrease, but not much decrease".
Ms. Thuy added: "We have been making efforts every day to improve the quality of training. This is reflected in the results of excellent student competitions at all levels, science and technology competitions... For example, in the 2023-2024 school year, Gia Dinh High School students won 6 prizes in the national excellent student competition, then in the 2024-2025 school year, this number increased to 11 prizes. Of which, 1 student entered the second round of the excellent student selection competition to participate in the international physics competition.
Similarly, in the city-level excellent student competition, in the 2023-2024 school year, the school had 86 students winning prizes, while in the 2024-2025 school year, this number was 135 students (including 12 first prizes, 38 second prizes, 85 third prizes)"...
Professional and amateur
Gia Dinh High School was established in 1956, belonging to Nguyen Duy Khang Parish with Father Vu Khoa Cu as director. After April 30, 1975, the school was nationalized as Thanh My Tay Secondary and High School.
In the 1995-1996 school year, the school officially changed its name to Gia Dinh Secondary and High School. Since the 1999-2000 school year, the school separated from the secondary school and became Gia Dinh High School.
This is one of the famous high schools in Ho Chi Minh City with many outstanding achievements, especially in the training and fostering of excellent students. Therefore, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City has chosen Gia Dinh as one of the four high schools in the city to recruit and train some specialized classes, in addition to the normal general education program classes (the other three high schools are: Nguyen Thuong Hien, Mac Dinh Chi and Nguyen Huu Huan).
Starting from 2025, Ho Chi Minh City will implement new regulations on specialized high schools, so all 4 high schools above will stop enrolling specialized 10th graders.
For many years, Gia Dinh High School has always been in the top schools with the highest standard scores in Ho Chi Minh City.
This year, the benchmark score for grade 10 admission to Gia Dinh High School dropped "shockingly" by 4.25 points, causing a stir in the student community with many conflicting and negative opinions.
