Prof. Dr. Tran Van Thuan - Deputy Minister of Health , Chairman of the National Medical Council emphasized this message in his speech at the opening session of the Vietnam - France Obstetrics and Gynecology Conference 2025 held on the morning of November 10.

The conference is the leading prestigious annual scientific event in the field of obstetrics and gynecology, taking place in Hanoi from November 9-10, marking more than 25 years of close professional cooperation between the Vietnamese and French governments in research, training and transfer of medical technology.

The conference gathered 1,500 delegates, more than 80 domestic and foreign reporters from France, Australia, Italy, Germany, Malaysia... This is an opportunity for Vietnamese medical staff to exchange, update and share pioneering medical advances in the field of maternal and newborn health care. The conference was organized by the Central Obstetrics Hospital in collaboration with the French Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology (CNGOF).

Forming centers of excellence in reproductive support, gynecological oncology... for regional and international integration

Speaking to domestic and international delegates, Prof. Dr. Tran Van Thuan - Deputy Minister of Health, Chairman of the National Medical Council emphasized that 25 years of Vietnam - France medical cooperation not only creates a prestigious academic forum, but also a place where the knowledge and medical quintessence of the two countries converge. Over the past 30 years, more than 3,000 resident doctors have been trained at prestigious French hospitals, making an important contribution to improving the quality of Vietnam's medical human resources, including obstetrics and gynecology.

According to the Deputy Minister, this event has special significance as it takes place in the context of the Vietnamese health sector strongly implementing the breakthrough strategic resolutions of the Politburo, namely Resolution No. 57 on science and technology, innovation and national digital transformation, and Resolution No. 59 on international integration in the new situation.

And especially Resolution No. 72 of the Politburo, which clearly identifies the requirement for comprehensive innovation in people's health care, promoting research, application of science and technology, digital transformation in healthcare, and strongly shifting from a treatment mindset to prevention and health care throughout the life cycle.

Deputy Minister of Health Tran Van Thuan expressed his special impression that this year's conference program focused on those focuses, with pioneering topics such as artificial intelligence in pregnancy and cervical cancer screening, genetics in prenatal diagnosis, modern reproductive support, preservation of reproductive function in cancer, minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery, and many other fields reflecting a strongly transforming obstetrics and gynecology sector, integrating into the flow of world medicine.

The Vietnam - France Obstetrics and Gynecology Conference marks more than 25 years of medical cooperation between the two countries.

"These are no longer individual research directions, but are components of a modern, interdisciplinary, digital and humane obstetrics and gynecology ecosystem, contributing to realizing the aspiration to improve maternal and child health in a comprehensive, equitable and sustainable manner," Deputy Minister Tran Van Thuan expressed.

Sharing more about some orientations that the obstetrics and gynecology sector needs to pioneer in implementing in the coming time, the Deputy Minister of Health stated that the obstetrics and gynecology sector needs to urgently standardize the comprehensive care process for mothers and newborns, from pre-natal to post-natal, in line with international guidelines and Vietnamese practices, to reduce maternal mortality, reduce obstetric complications and improve women's quality of life.

It is necessary to promote training - research - technology transfer in the "school - institute - hospital" model, and at the same time form centers of excellence in reproductive support, gynecological oncology, fetal medicine and genetics, capable of regional and international integration.

The Deputy Minister of Health emphasized: We are living in an era where maternal and child health is no longer a matter of a single profession, but is the hinge of human development and the future of the nation. In that picture, obstetrics and gynecology plays a pioneering role. And today's conference is the strongest affirmation: Vietnam is ready, capable, and has the stature to contribute a valuable academic voice to the international medical community.

Protecting the motherhood of Vietnamese women when they unfortunately have cancer

Prof. Dr. Nguyen Duy Anh, Director of the Central Obstetrics Hospital, said that one of the outstanding issues at this obstetrics and gynecology conference is the application of AI in obstetrics and gynecology practice.

AI can help doctors save time, manpower and support in making accurate decisions on prognosis, forecasting, screening and diagnosis of diseases. AI systems use historical medical data to learn and make accurate decisions, acting as a powerful support tool for doctors.

Prof. Dr. Nguyen Duy Anh, Director of the Central Maternity Hospital, spoke at the conference.

In addition, the conference also mentioned a very important and humane topic: preserving women's fertility. This is an issue not only related to disease treatment but also meeting the increasing needs of modern society.

In the past, cancer treatment often meant removing reproductive organs, which severely affected a woman's fertility. However, with advances in medicine, fertility preservation methods such as ovarian tissue banking or egg freezing have become viable solutions.

According to Professor Anh, preserving fertility is a real and legitimate need, not only for women with cancer but also for healthy women who, for personal or work reasons, do not want to have children at a young age.

"Preserving the ovaries and natural hormones allows women to maintain fertility long-term, independent of hormone replacement therapy.

This is especially important for women who want to have children after completing other tasks in life, such as career, education, or when they are older," said Professor Nguyen Duy Anh.

International experts received the "For People's Health" Medal from the Ministry of Health.

Professor Nguyen Duy Anh also added that in the world, over the past 10 years, the modern trend has been to treat patients while still preserving and maintaining reproductive and endocrine functions for women.

This technique is indicated for people with pelvic cancer…and must undergo radiotherapy because when undergoing radiotherapy, there is a high risk of destroying healthy ovaries, or in cases where women, due to certain conditions, wish to have children at the age of 40…

"However, we do not encourage women to perform this technique to have children later. This is due to the actual need from patients who want to preserve their fertility after getting sick, while the previous treatment method was to completely remove the disease" - Professor Nguyen Duy Anh emphasized.

National and international experts moderated the conference's discussion sessions.

The 2025 Vietnam - France Obstetrics and Gynecology Conference takes place with 5 parallel halls including 20 updated thematic reporting sessions and practical training programs, focusing on key issues and the latest trends in modern obstetrics and gynecology such as: Ultrasound in prenatal diagnosis; Preservation of reproductive function in cancer; AI in Obstetrics and Gynecology; Gynecological cancer; Genetics - prenatal diagnosis; Placenta accreta; Recurrent miscarriage and premature birth; Reproductive support;...

At the Conference, Professor Simon Meagher, Director of the Monash Women's Ultrasound Center (Australia) directly instructed the topic: "Improving fetal ultrasound - Standardization from the first trimester of pregnancy". The topic is highly applicable, helping Vietnamese doctors access the most advanced ultrasound techniques today.

The 2025 Vietnam-France Obstetrics and Gynecology Conference is not only a symbol of medical cooperation between Vietnam and France, but also a testament to the pioneering position of the Central Obstetrics Hospital in scientific research, professional training and international integration.

On this occasion, 4 international experts were awarded the "For People's Health" Medal by the Ministry of Health. These are "those who have silently, persistently and effectively contributed to the development of obstetrics and gynecology in Vietnam. The professors and doctors are not only talented physicians, but also a cultural and intellectual bridge between the two nations, the seeds of trust and friendship in the medical industry", Deputy Minister of Health Tran Van Thuan assessed.
