Wholesalers of decorative books, which used to cater to hotels and film studios, have recently seen an increase in orders from wealthy households, who buy books in bulk, mainly to beautify their living spaces.
“We have less and less time to read, so a full bookshelf has become a symbol of a high-class life, a hidden expression that the homeowner has plenty of time to read slowly,” Ms. Lauren Giles - founder of Curated Books - shared with British media.

Mrs. Giles's company offers all kinds of books, sold by the meter. The small-sized novels, with simple designs, are priced at 79 pounds/meter (equivalent to 2.8 million VND/meter).
The books are designed in a classic style, with elaborate leather covers, and cost between £330 and £990 per metre (equivalent to 12 to 35 million VND per metre). Ms Giles said that currently about a third of her customers are wealthy families.
British interior design lecturer Hannah Soulsby owns an interior design company. She now regularly buys books to serve the needs of displaying and beautifying interiors according to the aesthetic tastes of her clients.
“Only the homeowner and I know that the books on the shelves are primarily for display purposes,” Soulsby said. “But guests will be impressed by the large shelves filled with beautifully arranged books. The homeowner’s living space suddenly looks intellectual and aesthetically pleasing.”
Not only stopping at choosing books that match the homeowner's cultural taste, many interior design companies also provide book cover re-covering services to create beautiful color schemes for bookshelves, suitable for the interior color palette in the homeowner's living space.
Why do paper books still have great appeal?
In the 1990s, when digital technology began to change life, many experts predicted that paper books would eventually be eliminated.
Half a century ago, when television gradually became popular in life, experts also made similar predictions.

The appeal of paper books endures through time and change (Illustration: DM).
However, until today, paper books are still popular, even becoming "luxurious" decorative furniture in living spaces.
It is a fact that in recent years, printed books have started to sell well again. At this time, experts are trying to explain the enduring existence of paper books through time and change.
In fact, reading brings many benefits. First of all, it is the freedom of mind, the reader can enter new worlds opened from the pages of the book. Besides, the concentration needed when reading makes the reader's soul become calmer and more peaceful.
These things have been analyzed by psychologists for a long time, so paper books always have a fascinating appeal to those who understand the joy of reading.
