On the evening of April 19, The Cong - Viettel Club lost 1-3 on the field of Thanh Hoa Club in round 19 of LPBank V-League 2024 - 2025.

This result caused the army team to miss a beat in the championship race, being surpassed by Thanh Hoa Club despite having the same 30 points, but losing in goal difference (+5 compared to +7), and being 4 and 5 points behind the two teams ranked right above, Hanoi Club and Nam Dinh Club, respectively.

At the post-match press conference, coach Nguyen Duc Thang said: "I'm quite sorry that the team couldn't keep the lead.

Thanh Hoa's determination made us make mistakes in defense, and then they exploited the weakness in The Cong - Viettel's defense system.

Thanh Hoa players played very effectively, exploiting long balls and high balls accurately.

We don't want to lose. Every game in this sprint stage must have at least a point. At least one away point and a maximum of three home points."

The Cong - Viettel Club will play three matches in rounds 20, 21 and 24 of the V-League at Hang Day Stadium. And this is the second time the team has had to change home stadiums - the previous one was at the end of October 2024.

When asked about the above, Coach Nguyen Duc Thang shared: "Obviously, when having a home field, the team will have many advantages. Hang Day Stadium is nominally ours to borrow.

I think The Cong - Viettel's return to play at Hang Day Stadium will not affect their performance and quality of play much. But in general, no one wants to have to borrow their home field. Obviously, this is one of the psychological disadvantages for us."

Before the 2024-2025 season, The Cong - Viettel Club had to "give up" Hang Day Stadium to Hanoi Club and Hanoi Police Club due to AFC regulations limiting a stadium to a maximum of two home clubs for the entire season, effective from October 2023.

In previous seasons, Hang Day Stadium was the permanent home ground of Hanoi FC and The Cong - Viettel for many years.

Starting the 2024-2025 season, The Cong - Viettel Club has reached an agreement to rent My Dinh Stadium as its home ground. However, because the exploitation rights are completely dependent on the My Dinh Stadium management board, coach Nguyen Duc Thang and his team often find themselves playing on substandard grass.

In addition, the team had to return to rent Hang Day Stadium twice because My Dinh Stadium had an event schedule, with the first time in October 2024 having a Korean music concert, the most recent being on April 25, May 2 and May 23 with a series of domestic cultural events.
