3 hours like "dying and coming back to life"

Recently, the story of a stroke at the age of 27 shared by NNH on Facebook immediately attracted great public attention.

Sharing with Dan Tri reporter , the owner of this account said that he currently lives in Bien Hoa ( Dong Nai ) and works as an online sales person.

According to H., although the job is not physically strenuous, it requires her to face invisible pressure. Long sleepless nights, staying up late to process orders and respond to customers make her constantly sleep deprived.

"On the evening of May 12, I went to bed at 10 p.m. and woke up at around 1 a.m. because my whole body was freezing cold, even though the weather outside was very hot. I felt as cold as if I were in the North Pole, my head was aching, and I couldn't sleep again," H. recounted.

About 10 minutes later, H. started to feel dizzy, the phone fell out of his hand, his ears rang, and he could no longer hear the sounds around him.

Her limbs were stiff, her eyes couldn't open, everything was dark, only faint streaks of light remained. Unconsciously, H. tried to tell herself "I have to wake up and live".

It was almost 3 o'clock. In a dazed and exhausted state, H. struggled to move his arms and legs, then fumbled for his phone to call his relatives for help.

At 3:30 a.m., H. said she was taken to the hospital emergency room. After blood tests, an electrocardiogram, and close monitoring of her condition, the doctor diagnosed her with cerebral anemia and severe physical weakness due to stress and prolonged insomnia, which led to a mild stroke that nearly took her life.

Although the stroke did not leave any serious complications, H. is still confused after experiencing the incident.

"I still have pain all over my body, my facial muscles are stiff, I can't open my mouth wide, the most shocking thing is that I can't believe I had a stroke at this age," H. shared.

The doctor asked H. to rest completely, get enough sleep, avoid overwork, and closely monitor any unusual signs. "It was just a mild stroke, but it felt like I was dying and coming back to life," H. confided.

"Combo" causing stroke in young people's lifestyle

Statistics from the World Health Organization (WHO) show that the number of stroke cases in young people has been increasing alarmingly over the past two decades. In Vietnam, the number of stroke cases in people under the age of 45 accounts for about 10-15% of the total number of cases each year.

According to Master, Doctor Doan Du Manh, a member of the Vietnam Vascular Disease Association, seemingly "normal" habits such as prolonged work pressure, lack of exercise, eating fatty foods, staying up late, smoking and drinking alcohol are creating a dangerous "combo" that silently destroys brain health, especially in young people.

In the fast-paced urban life, many young people are so engrossed in their work performance that they forget to take care of their bodies. This leads to the silent accumulation of risk factors such as high blood pressure, dyslipidemia, diabetes, obesity, etc. All of which are "kindling" for sudden strokes.

"Many young patients do not know they have high blood pressure, or if they do, they take it lightly and do not treat it. Meanwhile, this is the leading cause of stroke, both due to cerebral ischemia and cerebral hemorrhage," Dr. Manh shared.

From this case, Dr. Manh recommends that when signs of suspected stroke appear, the patient should go to the hospital immediately.

Signs of a stroke include:

  • Loss of balance, headache, dizziness.
  • Blurred vision.
  • One side of the face is crooked and droopy.
  • Arm or leg on the same side is numb or weaker than the other side.
  • Difficulty speaking, lisp.

The "golden hour" period is calculated from the time of abnormal symptoms until diagnosis is 4-6 hours.

"Stroke is a medical emergency. When experiencing the above signs, patients need to be quickly taken to emergency medical facilities during the "golden hour". It is important to pay attention to properly treating high blood pressure to limit the risk of stroke," said Dr. Manh.
