Opportunity for Vietnamese enterprises to penetrate deeply into the Japanese industrial supply chain

(PLVN) - On June 3, in Hanoi, RX Tradex Vietnam Company, the Representative Office of the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) in Hanoi and the Trade Promotion Agency (Ministry of Industry and Trade) held a press conference to inform about two large-scale exhibition events in the fields of manufacturing and supporting industries.

At the press conference, Mr. Vu Ba Phu - Director of the Trade Promotion Agency said that by the end of 2024, Vietnam's supporting industry will have more than 6,000 enterprises operating in the textile and garment industry; automobile manufacturing and assembly; leather and footwear; mechanical engineering and electronics. The supporting industry has contributed to the development of a number of Vietnam's key industries, helping Vietnam increase its trade surplus from 2 billion USD in 2017 to more than 28 billion USD in 2024.

However, Vietnam’s supporting industry still only meets about 10% of the domestic market’s demand for components. This figure is a big challenge, especially when Vietnam has to import billions of dollars worth of components from abroad each year to serve domestic production.

Mr. Haruhiko Ozasa - Chief Representative of JETRO in Hanoi , said that according to JETRO's survey in 2024, up to 56.1% of Japanese enterprises in Vietnam plan to expand investment in the next 1-2 years, and 50.9% want to increase purchases from Vietnamese partners. This is the highest rate in ASEAN, showing that Vietnam is a strategic destination in the global supply chain.

In that context, the 11th Vietnam - Japan Supporting Industry Exhibition in Hanoi and the 17th Vietnam Manufacturing and Supporting Industry Machinery and Technology Exhibition in 2025 are considered a strategic trade promotion platform, connecting Vietnamese enterprises with international investors and buyers.

According to Mr. Haruhiko Ozasa, in the exhibition on supporting industries alone, 20 Japanese enterprises will participate as buyers, focusing on finding partners in key areas such as industrial plastics, electronic components and other supporting products. At the same time, about 20 Vietnamese enterprises with production and supply capacity that have been carefully selected will directly connect and work with Japanese partners.

The organizers said that these two exhibitions gathered more than 200 exhibiting businesses from more than 10 countries, including 160 foreign businesses coming to connect, hoping to find partners, promote connections between Japanese and Vietnamese businesses, and enhance the supply capacity of local manufacturers and processors.

In addition to the exhibition area, the exhibition also has a series of in-depth seminars revolving around automation and smart factory construction solutions, investment promotion seminars in the supporting industry sector to promote investment attraction in key areas of Vietnam's supporting industry...
