On June 4, the Ministry of Finance said that in the first five months of the year, tax authorities continued to implement tax management measures for e-commerce business activities.

164,661 taxpayers were reviewed, thereby collecting 747 billion VND. Of which, the amount collected from enterprises was more than 416 billion VND; from individuals and business households was more than 331 billion VND (25,201 cases).

According to the report, tax revenue from organizations and individuals doing business in e-commerce and digital economy in the first 5 months reached 74,400 billion VND. This figure increased by 55% compared to the same period in 2024.

Of which, 158 foreign suppliers registered, declared and paid taxes via the electronic portal of VND5,700 billion, an increase of 41% over the same period. 100,000 households and individuals doing business via the electronic portal paid nearly VND1,100 billion.

Last month, the Tax Department (Ministry of Finance) sent an open letter to businesses, households, and individuals doing e-commerce business, requesting compliance with tax registration, declaration, and payment. The tax agency affirmed that they will inspect and strictly handle businesses that do not fully fulfill their tax obligations. In cases of intentional non-compliance, the tax agency will transfer the case to the investigation agency to handle tax evasion.

According to the Tax Department, in the past, some groups have not registered their business or tax. Some groups have also under-declared their revenue and have not fully fulfilled their tax obligations from business activities on e-commerce and digital platforms. This has caused budget losses, violated the law and unfair competition.

Recently, many organizations and individuals selling online have been inspected and charged with tax arrears due to not declaring and paying taxes. This review was launched by the tax industry in the context of increasing management of e-commerce, from transactions on platforms to online business and livestreaming.
