Retain long-stay guests
According to the Hanoi Department of Tourism, responding to the program "Vietnamese people travel Vietnam" of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, from 2024, the Hanoi Department of Tourism has implemented the program "Hanoi people and tourists experience 4-5 star hotel services in Hanoi" with the aim of stimulating tourism in the capital for people living and working in Hanoi, especially during the low season.
Assessing the effectiveness of this program, Deputy Director of Hanoi Department of Tourism Nguyen Hong Minh said that although the pilot program has only been in place for 1 year, the program "Hanoi people and tourists experience 4-5 star hotels in Hanoi" has brought about certain effects when many hotels simultaneously built many new products to stimulate demand for guests to stay and experience.
In fact, in recent times, 4-5 star hotels in the capital have joined hands to build attractive products, creating a diverse accommodation market. Marketing and Communications Director of the 5-star Sheraton Hanoi Hotel Nguyen Thi Cam Ly said that the unit has built additional service packages in the fall for guests to experience the cuisine, culture and beauty of Hanoi's autumn.
According to Director of Sales and Distribution of Novotel Hanoi Hotel Nguyen Thi Viet Thu, the unit has created a product with a price discount of up to 40% on weekends for a family of 4 (children under 16 years old) including food and beverage services and experiences at the hotel. Assistant Director of Sales of Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi Hotel Le Hong Van shared that the unit has created a "VIP voucher" service package, taking tourists to visit the hotel with interesting historical stories.
To continue to increase the attractiveness and attract tourists to experience Hanoi longer, in addition to products built in the low season, during holidays and Lunar New Year, accommodation establishments continue to upgrade new service packages. Typically, on the upcoming International Women's Day, March 8, Hanoi Tower Hotel prepares a separate menu introducing Hong Kong cuisine. Pan Pacific Hanoi Hotel has a menu and gifts specifically for women. InterContinental Hanoi Landmark72 Hotel prepares afternoon tea and gifts for female guests...

Need sustainable connection
According to statistics, the number of tourists coming to Hanoi is growing quite well. From the beginning of 2025 to now, the total number of visitors staying in Hanoi is estimated at 688,000, up 1.5% compared to the previous month and up 37.1% compared to the same period last year. Deputy Director of Hanoi Department of Tourism Nguyen Hong Minh assessed that the significant increase in the number of domestic visitors shows that Hanoi is attracting a large number of visitors from neighboring provinces and cities and the trend of Hanoi people experiencing tourism in Hanoi is becoming more popular.
Although the stimulus campaign of 4-5 star hotels in Hanoi has created an image effect, according to the overall assessment, because the units operate independently with individual products, they have not created the expected booking efficiency. To maximize the attractiveness, retain tourists to stay longer, spend more, tourism experts say, Hanoi needs to build a more systematic stimulus campaign, focusing on a certain time and requiring the participation of travel agencies and destinations.
According to Head of Investment and Development Department (Hanoi Tourism Corporation) Le Hong Thai, if there is only an experience product at a single hotel, it will not attract tourists, so the role of travel companies and units needs to cooperate to build a package tour combined with experience tours at some places such as: Experience craft villages, cuisine, night tours... "Hotels need to make it easier for guests to book rooms, maybe let guests check in from 10am and check out at 2pm", Mr. Le Hong Thai suggested.
According to Vice President of the UNESCO Hanoi Travel Club Nguyen Tuan Anh, there needs to be a focused communication campaign targeting young people because this group is playing a decisive role in family spending and vacation destinations. In addition, it is necessary to create a sustainable alliance between travel, accommodation, and destinations to support and build product packages with preferential prices.
Currently, the Hanoi Department of Tourism is developing a plan to organize a stimulus program at hotels to attract long-stay guests. Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Tourism Nguyen Hong Minh said that the Department is consulting with accommodation units, travel agencies, and destinations to implement the program at the appropriate time, focusing on stimulating demand during Hanoi's low season, expected in the summer months.
“The Department of Tourism hopes that tourism businesses in the area will join hands to create a unified, sustainable alliance with the same determination to build an annual stimulus campaign with many attractive products for Hanoi,” said Mr. Nguyen Hong Minh.
