Brazilian man infected with parasites so severe that hundreds of pork tapeworm cysts appeared on his upper body and arms

The doctors ordered an X-ray of the patient. The X-ray results showed hundreds of parasitic larvae.   distributed throughout the man's upper body and arms. This shocked the doctors.

The parasite that attacked the man was Taenia Solium (T. solium), also known as pork tapeworm. Fortunately, the patient did not experience any dangerous complications because all of the larvae had calcified and died.

"The tapeworm larvae are all calcified, so they are no longer alive. If they do not cause any discomfort to the patient, their life is fine," explained Dr. de Souza, who works at the Hospital das Clínicas.

Studies show that people with severe parasitic infections like the man above often have weakened or damaged immune systems. Thanks to that, the parasites can thrive unchecked.

Tapeworms are common parasites that live on animals such as cows and pigs. Humans are sometimes their hosts. Healthy organisms become infected by eating or drinking food or water contaminated with tapeworm eggs. Tapeworm eggs enter the intestines and develop and can spread to almost any organ in the body.

The brain is one of the most common areas that tapeworms attack. In humans, they cause a condition called central nervous system cysticercosis, which causes symptoms such as slurred speech, seizures, and severe headaches. Patients are usually treated with antiparasitic drugs. In rare cases, surgery is required, according to the Daily Mail .
