Urgent telegram from the Prime Minister regarding the case of a drug-carrying vehicle hitting a traffic police major

On April 23, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh sent a telegram on handling the particularly serious traffic accident in Long An province to the Ministers of Public Security, Transport and the Chairman of the People's Committee of Long An province.

The dispatch stated: At about 4:00 p.m. on April 21, on DT824 road in My Hanh Nam commune, Duc Hoa district, Long An province, a particularly serious traffic accident occurred when a car with license plate number 49C-296.01 (driven by a suspect transporting drugs) crashed directly into the Traffic Police force on duty to patrol, control and handle violations of security, order and traffic safety, causing the death of 1 Major of the Traffic Police Team, Duc Hoa District Police and 2 civilians.

This is a hooligan act, resisting law enforcement officers is especially dangerous, directly infringing on the health and lives of police officers and soldiers and the lives of the people.

The Prime Minister would like to express his deepest condolences to the family of the Traffic Police Major and the families of the deceased victims; at the same time, he requested the Ministry of Public Security , the Ministry of Transport, the People's Committee of Long An province and relevant agencies and units to direct the settlement, overcome the consequences, visit, support and encourage the families of the victims in the accident.

To overcome the consequences of the traffic accident, prevent similar cases from happening and strengthen the work of ensuring traffic order and safety nationwide, the Prime Minister requested the Ministries and the People's Committee of Long An province to implement a number of contents.

The particularly serious traffic accident occurred at around 4:00 p.m. on April 21, on Highway 824 in My Hanh Nam Commune, Duc Hoa District, Long An Province.

The Ministry of Public Security directed the Long An Provincial Police to urgently investigate, verify and strictly handle according to the law those who committed hooliganism and resisted law enforcement officers in the above accident; at the same time, directed the Police of units and localities to tighten control and strictly handle similar cases in accordance with the direction of the Prime Minister.

Direct the immediate implementation of procedures and submit them to competent authorities for consideration of awarding the title of Martyr to the Traffic Police Major who died while performing duties in the above accident and implement policies and regimes for the families of soldiers in accordance with the provisions of law.

The Prime Minister requested the Chairman of the Long An Provincial People's Committee and Head of the Long An Provincial Traffic Safety Committee to direct the province's functional agencies and units to visit and support the families of the victims who died in the above accident.

At the same time, strengthen patrolling, control and strictly handle violations of traffic order and safety laws; promptly investigate, clarify the cause and strictly handle organizations and individuals who violate the law and cause the accident.

The Ministry of Transport directs the Transport Inspectorate force of the entire sector and local Transport Departments, together with the Traffic Police force and Public Security of units and localities, to immediately deploy solutions according to the direction of the Prime Minister in Directive 10 dated April 19, 2023 to ensure traffic order and safety nationwide; focusing on directing the prevention and handling of acts of resisting people on duty.

Chairmen of People's Committees of provinces and centrally run cities shall organize the dissemination and strict implementation of Directive 10 dated April 19, 2023 of the Prime Minister on strengthening the work of ensuring order and safety of road traffic in the new situation .
